Toyota has been eyeing Nissan's success with the revived 350Z - and apparently, from spy pictures nabbed this week, it's been a little jealous of supercars like the Porsche Carrera GT, too. Toyota 's been caught testing what some insiders are calling the "TXS," a limited-production exotic that might be powered by a V-10 engine worth 500 hp.

Pictures show the TXS with enough cladding to disguise much of its shape, but clearly, this is no Celica or MR2-sized sportscar. Insiders suggest the car will tip in at less than 3000 pounds, giving its 500-hp powerplant (with 370 lb-ft of torque) a serious chance at catching the likes of the Porsche and Benz supercars. Top speed could reach 190 mph, the same league as the 550-hp Ford GT. Whether the drivetrain offers any version of Toyota 's hybrid technology is unknown.

Whether the final vehicle is sold as a Lexus or as a Toyota , it's likely that a limited production run of about 10,000 units is in order. Expect a debut at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show and an on-sale date soon after - with a price tag well over $100,000.

^^ Wow the two members above me are a couple of tools...

As for the car, LOL "Toyota has been eyeing Nissan's success with the revived 350Z", so what they're gonna charge double or more for their car and hope to have similar success??

Looks like it could be a hot car, dunno how well it'll do at that price though...

This wouldnt be the reworked supra we have been hearing about for a few years would it? I thought they wanted to make the supra a super car.... not to mention if you imagine it without its cladding on it kinda looks like a modern supra... and yes those idiots were tools, I applaud any motor company that wants to create a super car.

It seems strange to me that they would make it LHD, I wonder if its even for their domestic market.

I think it looks pretty sweet, but I predict it'll fail horribly.

It's going to be another NSX, with more horsepower and a Toyota badge.
The cost of it will murder sales.

since NSX is the most popular supercar ever, I don't see how that means the Toyota will fail. This is a segment where they only expect to sell 3,000-5,000 a year. If it sells 10,000, it'd be a gigantic success.

looks cool to me.

I love the nsx as much as the next hond alover. But I even think teh NSX is too much for what you get.

I think overall it looks ok but it looks far from production just from the non glass windows and such...

I think it has potential... but they should either lose or change the rear wing it looks like something they grabbed out of the ebay bargain bin.

I'd hardly say that. An NSX is pretty comparable to a 911. There were maybe a few hundred sold last year, WORLD-WIDE. How many 911's were sold?

It'd be safe to say that the Corvette is a vastly more popular 'supercar' then the Honda/Acura NSX. I'm sure they sell more then 3-5K corvettes a year :)

i'm not a fan of jap supercars.....they are too expensive for the modern folk...and the ppl with the serious money will always go Italian or German, and they don't have as many of the diehard fans as the domestic's do, like the vette. it just seams that they have a very weak marketing base

The great thing about the NSX's is that you can find a low mileage one from the early 90's that is bullet-proof and under $50K. I'd buy a used NSX over a 350Z anyday. The new ones are just rediculously priced.

The headlights look gay. The rest of the car looks cool.

Nobody buys NSX's. Honda actually looses money on every car they sell. I cant see this car being sold as a Toyota. It may be given a scion badge if it ever goes up for sale

I think it looks pretty sweet but it's hard to make a full decisions cuz of all the cladding. I definitely WOULD NOT say it's gay. As for the price tag, I can't see it being that successful. I Look foward to seeing one on the road.
