I have a 96 dodge ram 1500 4x4 extended cab all stock and need to improve acceleration big time its got an alright top end but needs some help on acceleration. Whats a good cheap way to get noticable acceleration any help would be greatly appreciated. Im only 16 so i need some help and id like to stay on the cheaper side but all suggestions are great.
thanks, Matt

Don't know how much help it will do, but getting lower resistance plug wires will help some, btw, what size motor are you running in it, 318 or 360? that will help some ppl. who know more to help you out...

Its a 318 all stock. Thanks. Sry i forgot the motor. Also running 3.55. And what should the rpm gauge be at when its idling because mine is only at 500.??

Don't forget, Domestic trucks dont idle liek cars do, they also dont rev up like cars do so just cause it idles lower then someone else car doesn't mean there is a problem. For acceleration, Id change the gears to a 3.73 or a 4.10

i would suggest a K&N filter or intake kit along with a throttle body would prolly get the throttle repsonse to react alittle quicker

Yes I was thinking a new high flow filter might boost a little better response but wasnt sure. Thanks any one else have any ideas?

K&n, exhaust are the cheapest.
Changing the gears will be expensive as hell if you got 4x4 and cant do it yourself... and doesnt provide much real gain, you just kill your highway drivability in turn for faster accel.

Try even a diablo sport tuner, that's a good 500 bucks 20horse.

and if all else fails, as I read somewhere else on the forum, want more power, add stickers...

I'm not terribly familiar with the domestic trucks but low end accel is actually a little lowered by a high flow exhaust on a Tacoma. You lose a little hp from the loss of back pressure. In order to see the gains you need to be running different headers and probably a 'charger. It all depends on your vehicle from what I understand. Dont auto assume that an exhaust increases low end accel. Mostly its just for looks and sound.

Cheapest way to gain some low end would be wires, plugs and intake. As a 4x4 dont go with a CAI just get a high flow filter. k&N filter or order an amsoil filter.

96' right? srt 10 could be something to think about. since you have a trade in the payments would be somewhat low, but the insurance should suck wang. haha but :whocares:

   Thats awesome... Stickers must work the same as those giant drifter wings on a stock cavalier... i hear they add a hundred Hp right there :D
