My friend just bought a 91 MR2 turbo and hes having speedo problems, it just stays at 0. What should he check before he takes it in? Where should he take it?

thanks

Im an exporter and reprogram Speedometers everyday to MPH for the trucks I ship to the US. Call me at 277-7773 on Tuesday. If I dont have the parts I will give you another number to someone who will most likely be able to fix it right away.
Ask for Ken

I don't know if the 91 MR2s are the electronic type, but my 91 Civic is the mechanical type. Basically its just a wire inside a housing which plugs in to your tranny on one and the speedometer on the other end. Follow the wire from your speedometer to your tranny, pull it out, and see if it is the mechanical or if it is electronic.

It's not a wire, it's some little metal piece that spins round and round. I had the same problem on my mr-2. Not too much to fix either.

A '91 is mechanical, 93+ are electrical. Most likely its the mechanical sender unit at the transmission and not the cable itself or anywhere near the instrument cluster. Just one of the gears in there broke. Kona9 probably has the parts.
