I think that amount is for a euro M3 motor.
Which is way better than a regular m3 motor.

No thats for a replacement E46M3 motor dealerships kept in stock because so many blew up.

I assume he wanted an E46 motor since he said it was a 2000.

The E46M3 motor dropped from $12k usd to $3k usd when BMW started producing TONS and stocking them for replacement.

Now that BMW thinks they fixed the problem, it's probably more expensive again. If you're not aware, BMW recalled every E46M3 except for MY2004's with a new rod bearing replacement, as well as new software that lowers the rev limit in 1st and 2nd gear.

When he's buying, make sure he's buying a motor with the NEW rod bearings and ECU software with the new rev limits.

Hey luderlop,

Your friend may have a problem.

my2000 e46's were all drive by cable, whereas the e46m3 engine is drive by wire. Im not sure why, but I've heard that this causes major complications in doing an engine swap.

look into this before jumping into anything.

Sell current car and buy a E46 M3, many issues with trying a swap with the E46, much more intergrated systems then E36's.

Supercharging would be an easier option. Couple it with cams (IF you can find an installer that can swap the DBL VANOS gears onto the aftermarket cams and time then them) add headers and depending what E46 he has he will be encroaching on M3 territory without the M3 engine and tranny price.

To put into perspctive: I once considered a 6 spd swap. A new 6 spd from an E46 M3 was over 12K without including the clutch and flywheel.

Just drop in the a Z06 crate motor... there is an e36 with one and it is super fast. I think the guy said the motor was $4K USD.

No, similar. I like the girl on the front page.

The one in Calgary was Silver and it was a 4 door.
