I have had a fascination with the Toyota Corolla GTS since I saw one driven by a private owner (with aspirations of formula 1 mind you) on a track here in Michigan a few years back. I later got more interested in the car after watching Initial D, and I was wondering does anybody know of the 86 that was supposedly worth $100,000? I have heard talk of it from a few a different people, but a quick search turned up nothing. I was wondering if any of you guys had heard of it...

I don't think any AE86 will be worth $100k. Maybe $100k invested into the car.......

That is the exact motor that is in the Initial D AE86 ... the anime is picture-perfect to real life. Now, what I want to know is, what was around first -- this car, or Tak's?

20V Distributor doesnt clear the firewall, our corolla we have at the shop here had to do some big modification to the firewall for his 20V to clear

Hey thanks a lot Blinkme. Thats the one i was looking for, that car is awesome isnt it? i cant believe the revs that thing can pull off, 11,000 rpm!!! And remember horsepower doesnt always matter, its what you do with it that counts... I would really like to see what kinds of cars that thing could take on a circuit if given the oppurtunity and a competent driver.

200+hp in an ae86 is prety sick power...

damnonly 200 hp, for 100k i would expect alot more

HellfireR6

ya but his car is modded out to handle the power, not like the 100g was wasted....

detuned to 210hp with 9000rpm before it hits a limiter for street use

255hp at 11,000rpm for track.....

an S2000 stock hits only 9,000 for 50g's so this is pretty good for a AE86 at 11,000rpm

since the guy has standalone, i dont see why he kept the stock distributor. its not too difficult to setup a distributorless ignition setup.

I think the levin and truenos saw the same production years. between 85-87. They were both availabe as coupes or hatchbacks.

Taking a hammer isn't a modification. Any hack could do that.

With all the time and money you would think they would cut the firewall and resculpt it to fit properly. Make it look like it was supposed to fit.

Ive got the 30 minute buildup videoof this car its pretty incredible what they do to it. They take it out on the streets afterwards...its unreal. Almost every component in the engine was replaced with something aftermarket, mainly TRD Japan$$$$

Thats an unreal car. Was this built before the whole initial d thing started? Its obvious the engine is the same in initial d..

Redlyne_mr2, could you post that video or perhaps point us in the direction of a link? I would be really interested to see that video.

STFU.. this car has serious thought and custom mechanical modifications done to it. How can you even compare it to a car with a body kit?

100,000 yen is roughly $1300 CAD. Hah, yeah right.

Iida Akira's car was built up around '98-'99, whereas Initial D seems to have debuted about 2001-'02. (Going by when the UofC anime club started playing it, that sounds about right.)

So Takumi's highly tweaked AE86 would appear to be based, at least in part, on the Iida car.

Initial D came out in 98.

I guess in initial d it was awhile before he got his new engine put in, so i'm thinking it was based on Iida's car?

My bad - never really paid attention to the manga. (Altho I was talking about the anime, not the game.)

those are Advan Neova tires
Advan debut them at the D1 grand prix

from what i read in young magazine, Shigeno Shuichi has a car very similar to what takumi is driving in the anime/manga.
it's supposively tricked out and has a 11,000rpm redline as well

I seem to remember a shigeno tuned 86 in gran turismo 3. It looked remarkably like Takumi's 86, even with the black CF hood. If I had to guess I would say that the shigeno car is the car the anime/manga is based on. It sounds like the Shigeno car and the Iida car are remarkably similar, the major difference being that one is a trueno and the other a levin. Old throwbacks to the Atlantic series race cars. I wish I had one...
