Hey guys, I have decided I am going to drive my IS 300 over the winter. I have been looking around for winter tires but don't really know which ones are best for around here. The best ones I found are Dunlop Winter Sport M3's from the tirerack, they have excellent reviews and I was wondering if anyone used them on their rear wheel drive car.......Any other recommendations would be great too....thanks:thumbsup: I am going to by putting on my factory 17's for the winter too..

The Dunlop M3s are amazing and you'll have a hard time finding a better tire. We have many of the sizes in stock.

Toyo Gait HT's are one of the better H rated winter tires on snow and ice for certain, but these days, just about all winter tires offer massive improvements in winter ability...

Just got my Kumho KW17's. I would have saved a few extra bucks and opted for the KW19 but those didn't come in the right size. The tread of the KW19 seems significantly more aggressive and will probably sacrifice some dry performance for traction on snow. The KW17's are exactly the opposite. I'll let you know how it goes after the first snowfall.

ive been using Kuhmo winter tires (Izgen i think) for the past 2 seasons and they are the best winter tires I have ever used. They stick to ice. I am also using Kuhmos for my summer tires and they are amazing on dry and wet. For the money there is no better tire IMO

Am i the only one here who likes Semprit?
Last season i tried both Kumho kw17 and Semprit sportgrip. I like the sportgrips a lot (and they look way cooler)

I just popped in there today after work. for 205/55R16, the nokians were $188/tire! Nothing less than $175.

I can get kumho's for $117.

240: Kumho Ecsta Supra 712

Civic winter beater - 4 different tires, all four in different states of wear.. 1 totally bald on LR, 1 20% tread on RR, one 60% tread on FL, and one 80% tread on the FR. Believe it or not I ran it like this last year all season and I never had a traction problem!

I'm gonna need to change the LR out this week tho I think..

Yeah, I've had them for 2 seasons. They're pretty good. The only downer is that they're a bit noisy on wet roads. But, this is a winter tyre we're talkin' about here.

Nokian Hakka Q's. Great for the less travelled snowy and sheer icy roads by my place. A little squirmy on dry pavement, but not too bad - gives added incentive to drive slower.

argh! no winter tires on my spec v yet as someone stole mine steelies during the summer.

So I guess it's the cab to work this morning and then the wifey picking me up after work :D

I used Nokians last year on the Volvo, they're awesome, hard to have fun in them though...

I might be needing new winters for the Benzo so I'll probably end up putting Nokians on this car as well.

I have Kumho KW-11's with studs on my Cruiser - really happy with them. The studs make a world of difference on ice. Kind of sucks on pavement though hehe.

For the tercel, you might as well get winters on there... 55 profile tires are damn cheap.

What are people's thoughts on winter steelies? I've heard that the cheap ones at walmart are crap, they'll warp and can give you balancing problems. Anyone with experience with this? Winter steelie rim failure?
The ones that I was recommended were $20 more ($70 vs $50/ rim)

I've bought steelies from Walmart/Canadian Tire before (approx $50/wheel) and have had no probs whatsoever. The only thing you might have to watch for is fitment on your hubs. The wheels they sell are not vehicle/manufacturer specific, so they MIGHT not seat on your hub snugly. Worst case, you'll have to spring for a set of hubcentric rings for ~$10......

02 Mustang GT Convertible - Dunlop Winter Sport M2's.

"Many sports cars, coupes and sedans come from the factory equipped with low profile tires mounted on the large diameter alloy wheels needed to clear their big brakes. The Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2 was developed so the drivers of these cars could retain their vehicle's original wheel diameters while blending dry road performance with snow traction. The SP Winter Sport M2 is Porsche-approved for 100% of their current vehicles' winter tire needs, and factory-recommended for use on the sport models from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz Volkswagen and others. The SP Winter Sport M2 is engineered to deliver performance and traction whether the road is ice & snow covered or not.

The SP Winter Sport M2 features a directional tread design to help maintain good traction on wet and slush covered roads while its high-density lateral zig-zag sipes and independent tread blocks provide the edges to help bite through snow. The SP Sport is a tire for the performance car drivers who need snow and ice traction and want to retain as much dry road responsiveness and handling as possible."

If its good enough for the germans, its good enough for me :burnout:

Wow thanks for all the responses. I ended up putting on Michellin X Ice's cause nobody seemed to have the Dunlop M3's in stock. Not to mention the M3's are $330 a piece. I paid $270 a tire for the X ice's and they are absolutely incredible , very good traction even on glare ice. Hopefully It keeps my car out of the ditch for a couple years.:D
