Well I've been toying with the idea of selling my car for a few months now...and what to know what you guys think of the idea. I'm 20 and have a 2003 320i...so it's slow, but new. I am thinking of selling it and picking up and e30 or e36...most likly an e30...that investing the rest........I'd probably get a faster e30....not looking for a little 318 or anything...but than again....an e30 M3 is not going to leave me with much to invest....so I'd be looking for something in the middle there............What do you guys think?

How much do you think you can get for your 320 and how much do you want to invest?

E36 328's are around 17k for 4drs... more for the 2dr's.

You can find E30 M3's for around 15k usually... but they are ticking time bombs just waiting to blow an engine.

E30 325's are good cars. I'd get a 2dr. They can be had easily for under 8k.

well I'd be looking to get maybe 30 for my 320...which is what others are going for...with the same klicks, ect.....

As far as what I want....I'd be looking at anything I can get on a good deal....I refuse to narrow it down because I want a car that I can get a good deal on...not that I'll pay like crazy jsut to have! I guess we'll have to see what's out there next spring.

I'd love to have a drop top....but who knows...only thing I would set out is that I need to have a 2dr.

If power is your main concern maybe a BMW isn't the best route for you. Outside of M cars BMWs aren't notorious for being speed/power demons.

I think the thing you need to assess is what is it exactly you're looking for in a car. Based on that criteris you can figure out or we can help suggest what might be best.

If I end up selling the car...I WILL buy another BMW....I've been a BMW fan ever since I started caring about cars (I think I got the love for them from my brother). The only other car I would love to get would be an older porsche..but I couldnt own a 2 seater at this point in my life..so that kind of rules that out. Now I'm just toying with the idea of E30 vs. E36...for the money.

IMHO if you are looking at something more reliable with with less headaches and some more power, go for the newer car. i.e. E36.

The aftermarket support is great too.

As Adam said you can get yourself into an E36 coupe ranging from $17K to $39K depending on the condition, model and year.

In addition....

being that you have an 2003 and it should have the drive by wire throttle. Swapping in a M54B30 or M54B25 out of a 330/325 (respectively) should be straight forward as long as you have the DME/ECU.

That way you have more power plus new technology and in most probability more reliability. The power that SCs are adding into the M5/M52TUs are pretty amazing.

E30 M3 is a great track car and ideal for spirited street driving. It's far from an ideal daily driver though, so if you choose this car, be sure you have something else for commuting, shopping, etc.

E36 M3 is a great car to have if it's your only car. Excellent for the track or as a daily driver and is very reliable.

PM me if you want more info. I've owned both cars.
