I am looking for an alternative to shipping my ECU down to the states. Oh, its a GIAC chip for a 98 Audi A4

Have a picture of the chip and components to be installed?

If its just soldering you need done, I have done tons of surface mount soldering of chips and components by trusty hand (and microscope in some cases).

If you can solder and have a magnifing glass rigged up to something, its pretty easy provided you have thin solder, nice sharp soldering tip, and some solder wick helps too.

also..
If you don't want it done by hand, there are places you can send them out to get done, provided you send all components you need and a diagram. They program it into the machine and it does it...usually done for lots of the same board, but I am sure they can do one for you. Don't know the cost on one though.

I *THINK* that place was in Calgary, I shipped a few boxes to them once, can't remember the name or address though sorry.

I really don't want to take the chance of doing it myself. One quick slip of the hand, and I would need a new ECU. I also need two 22 pin adapters, because the chip is socketed. I think I will probably just end up shipping it to the place it was purchased from. That is unless there is another option. I was talking to Reg Reimer, and he said he usually gets Nortel guys to do it for him, but they charge around $150 /hr
