Help!

I need some advice on a break set-up, here are my options:

Option #1 (More money, more braking)

Axxis Ultimate pads all around (Price for both wheels) = 38.99 fronts, 34.99 rears USD
Brembo Rotors front and rear (Price for both wheels) = 59.98 front 46.98 rears USD

262.00 with shipping and conversion

Option #2 (Middle of the road)

Axxis MM pads all around = 32.99 front, 26.99 rear
Brembo fronts, AV rears = price above, 20 CAD per rotor for rears

About 200.00 shipped

Option #3 (El cheapo)

Auto Value house brand pads = 25.00 CAD for front and back
Auto Value rotors all around = 20.00 CAD per rotor

130.00 bought in town

Ideas???

Anyone else want to get in on this? How are the prices?

Of the options you listed, I'd go with option two. For a few bucks more, I'd look at Hawk F pads. I got mine from Mopac and believe it or not, literally right off the shelf.
Most brake rotors are more or less the same, until you start getting into true performance race stuff (then you start paying for it). Spend the money on a decent set of pads since they do most of the work.

:werd: on the hawk brake pads. they are wicked as long as you set them proporly. and price out power slot rotors, brembos you are just paying for the name. i have Euro Rotors on my car right now and they all say brembo on them. power slots are like half the price of the KVR slotted and the same quality. just call up mopac 277-0101 and price this stuff out...they should have most of in stock and you don't pay speedtech prices.

I've got a set of oem rotors that were drilled and a set of KVR pads for the front if you're interested. I'm going to go with Legend brakes on the front of mine so no need for them anymore. I paid $120 for all of that. Let me know if you're interested.

Brembo rotors work out to be about 30 CAD per wheel!! The Auto Value and PArtsource rotors are more expensive for the house brand.

Mopac wants way too much for pads in town, I'll buy off the internet anytime I can.

Speedtech prices..... You would have to kill me first.

Here's an update on my teg:
Looks like I have an understanding with Speedtech now. I'm going to do a B20 rebuild provided my pistons are still good. It's getting machined in town this time so I may actually have it on the road this summer. I thought this would never happen. Anyhow, still need to wait and see if my parts are usable. I'll know early next week.

gen2teggy, you have that body kit painted yet? Looks awesome in your signature - can't imagine what it'll look like when it's painted  .

Some of you already know, abtegs is organizing a cruize BBQ up to sylvan lake at the end of July. There might be some edmonton members there as well. we can do this as our cruize or do you all want to do our own seperate one to banff? I'm feeling the need for an official G2 meet/cruise sometime SOON before summer's over. Let's get this rolling!

I would be there for a banff cruise.

I would rather change my alternator 5 times than go to sylvan in the summer.

They are for JDM one piece headlights, typically hard to find.

You cant walk into a parts store and get them off the shelf.

I've never actually heard of this brand before. But for the price it'd be worth trying out. Like Quasar said, they're hard enough to find yet alone at a great price.

QuasarCav
06-18-2005, 11:33 AM
Damn that is a good price. Do you guys have the option of converting to H4? I see those bulbs all over the place.

I'm going to get some yellow H3's when my fogs burn out, than my ghetto USDM one pieces will be complete.

The 9007 conversion really makes a big difference in the quality and quantity of light coming out, haven't been flashed yet so I'm doing something right.

frozenrice
06-18-2005, 12:26 PM
You can convert to H4 but that means hacking up the rear of the headlight housing and ghetto rigging the metal spring/bracket that holds the bulb in place. The other H4 option is to cut the flange on the regular H4 bulb so that the base will fit into the H4 hole. I particularily don't care for either of these options because it means hacking something up which means a chance of error that can't be reversed easily.

Enough about homos.

I need the three bolts that hold the heatsheild onto the factory exhaust manifold.

Anyone have them laying around?

freakin
06-24-2005, 12:47 PM
Quasar: If they're the same ones that bolt on the rest of the heat shields I think I do. I know there's a large section sitting in my garage from when I put my short shifter in. I'm sure the bolts are still sitting in it. Call me tomorrow and I'll look for it.

Mike, I took my old engine to a local machine shop to see what was salvagable from it. If the pistons are good, I'll be ordering rings next week and dropping off another block for them to bore out. I should be able to make that deadline. If not, I'll be rocking a B18C5 pending sale of my parts.

I've been working on the Volvo lately. I just put a euro spec cam in to it. I guess you could say it was a SDM cam.
It's a friggin' blast to drive now. 12PSI of boost and a cam that runs strong all the way to redline. WOOT!! Just need to address the exhaust that likes to fall off periodically and the fact that I don't have a back window and can't find one in town. I was going to take it to secret street this weekend, but I don't think it'll pass tech, hehe.

I might be crazy but it feels like my hood is getting 3 times hotter since I took it off.

I sanded it down and made it shiny again, had alot of time to waste.

Since my last update here it whats new:

Amber bulb conversion and red needles. Took some creativity to get the needles red but in the end it loks great. The speedo cable was easy, I was psyching myself up for a tough job but It ended up coming off really quickly.

Oil change, my first ever oil change! Worked pretty good, got a filters worth of oil all over myself but it's all a learning experience.

Brakes, waiting to install them. Axxis Ultimates up front and Axxis Metal master in the rear. Brembo rotors all around and a total price of only 225 CDN shipped. Hooray for internet.

Tinted the tails, used Tamiya clear smoke. It's very subtle but I think it really enhances the look of the 92-93 tails. I'll post pics and the method I used later on.

Timing is back up to 18 BTDC, nice throttle response and an increase is milage. I'm at about 9L/100km since the mod.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone changed their thermostat? My car overheats when it hot out, and I'm thinking it's the thermostat. So just wondering if anyone has changed it themselves? I don't think it should be that hard, but anyone have any tips?
Also should I get an oem one from Honda/Acura or will one from Canadian Tire do?
I'm in town (Calgary) for a few days, until I can get my car fixed (I need new tires too), so I can head back to Vancouver.

Thanks for your help.

Hi guys,

Has anyone seen member jetfire lately? Where the heck did he go, I want to see his JDP Eng. cf lip on his car. I might consider getting one.

Id like to be there, but its probably not going to happen. Maybe carless, my hockey team is supposed to be sending my to Calgary with spending cash. At my new job its kinda hard to get time off as well, especially since im relatively new at this point.

A new suprise eh...do share

Update on my car situation. My violent hesitation seems to have been a combination of things. Over the past couple months Ive done a lot more trouble shooting and seem to have partially fixed my problem, my car is driveable now, but still hesitates a bit and idles funny. As we speak I have my IACV taking a bath, although I dont thing that will do anything, Ive tried it before. The problem, in part, was my map sensor vacuum line, and injectors.

Ill try to get the trip to Calgary at the same time as the meet, then at least I could be there in person.

Sweet sweet! Keep em coming. This one we'll be cruising to Johnstone Canyon. It's just past banff no more than half an hour or so. then go for a hike through the canyon to at least the lower falls and can continue to the upper falls if everyone is feeling energetic. It's very scenic, I'll find some pics I have and post em. Pack a lunch and we'll eat at the halfway point at one of the falls. If we're making good time we can always stop off at banff for a coffee or something and hit the 1A on the way home. How does this sound? :D

Quasar I'm interested in details!! :burnout:

Tinted the tails, used Tamiya clear smoke. It's very subtle but I think it really enhances the look of the 92-93 tails. I'll post pics and the method I used later on.

I'm in for either date.....whether I'll have a car is questionable, but I'll tag along regardless.

zuhalter: Did you get those rims back yet? Post some pics of them, I'd love to see how they turned out.

I'll try and get the pics of my tails up later. It's pretty simple to do just takes a lot of sanding.

Anyone want to buy my car?
