Thanks! I was leaning towards that one, but wanted a 2nd opinion.

While I'm at it, there are two wires that are connected to the starter. One is a thin wire with a blade connector on it. The other wire is a heavier wire with a ring terminal screwed to the starter. What is each wire for? I'm thinking the thinner one is from the switch (signal wire?) and the heavier one is to the battery (power). In the process of doing the auto to 5 speed swap, I found out I need to wire a starter relay so I need to know which one does what.

danlowteg
09-23-2007, 11:07 PM
starter relay? you mean so you have to push your clutch in to start the car?

frozenrice
09-23-2007, 11:26 PM
That part is okay.
Hard to explain, but it has something to do with routing the power from the key switch to the starter. On a manual transimission, there is actually a stater relay according to the manuals. On an auto that power is supposedly routed through a switch in the shifter. So when you do a tranny swap, and ditch the auto shifter that switch is gone and you end up with a direct connection from the key switch to the starter. From what I've read, the key switch wears out over time so any power that is routed through it is impeded which reults in difficutly starting.

Who wants to help me swap motors this weekend? I've changed my mind and decided to put a GSR in the CRX. It'll be an easy swap, everything is already clean, the b-series conversion is done and so is the wiring.

Jackie, let me know what you want for that tranny. I'm doing a motor swap next weekend and would love to swap out my hydro tranny for a cable unit.

Lewis, you'll need to cut and then weld in a gusset for the header. It's a bit of a pain in the ass if you don't have access to a welder and some fabricating tools. The other option is to go to a tubular front crossmember and traction bars. The EDM units are really reasonably prices and my ITR header clears with lots of room to spare on my CRX now.

I do not have a lot of tools, I will need the crank pulley bolt remover for sure :)

Unfortunately, the engine is in the car. I've seen it done and it does not look too hard to replace while it is in the car. But I do remember them having a hard time removing the crank pulley bolt.

frozenrice
10-07-2007, 01:37 PM
The crank pulley bolt is actually just a 19mm. You're probably thinking of the holder tool to hold the crank so it doesn't turn when you remove the bolt.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/frozenrice/53_1.jpg

You can pick one up for around $30. Some Canadian Tires or parts stores will have them. The center portion of the tool is hollow so that you can put your socket through it to get at the bolt. Impact gun FTW.........

jaylo
10-07-2007, 09:50 PM

I saw another RHD G2 Teg today. I was heading south on Macleod on the way to work. It was black with body kit, kazoo-sounding exhaust, and clear/chrome angle eye headlights. It was okay I guess, but not what I would do to it.
