ok, my friend (who's not a member here) will have $7700 saved up by time summer rolls around, whish is when he's gettin his car. his parents are paying for %60 of his car... and hes lookin at tegs 94+. i'm kinda new at this whole thing, but i was thinkin (since he wants a project car and all) is it a good idea to buy a nice clean car that looks great, but has like 200k+ miles on it? and then just get some engine swap?

i dont really know how much a swap would be (for a nice fast engine with reletively low milage) for a teg, and if it's even a nice reliable thing people do. anyone know 1. how much he should spend on the car total and 2. if he should get an engine swap and if u think it's a good idea 3. what type and for how much?

i would appreciate it, thx

200000+ miles is a lot and you will need to replace other parts besides the engine.

IMO for $7700, you can easily find a car with lower mileage that doesn't immediately need an engine swap. Sure it's a project car but it's nice to get something you can drive right away and not sit in the garage for months waiting for parts.

do you know how much a complete engine swap would be though?

Not sure but I would guess it would be cheaper in Georgia. There are quite a few beyond members that have swapped engines and perhaps they can chime in.

if he plans to spend all $7700, that means his parents are putting in about $10000, bringing the grand total to $17700, in my opinion your friend should buy a 97+ teg, or even a 97+ prelude (i saw one in the trader for 15g's, looked nice, had roughly 100k kms)

i think the 7700 was including the 60% from the parents.....and ya for 7700 USD u could find a very clean car, with low milage

no, he has $7700 saved up... and he's deciding on what car to get. his parents have agreed to pay for 60% of the car. so if he gets a 10k car... he pays for $4000 (40%)... they will pay $6000 (60%)... and he will have $3700 left over...

btw he's planning on spending 8k-9k on the car...
