My neigbour always see's me riding in my celica down around the block and he's decided to get one himself. I told him to not buy a brand new one, just buy an older 2000 model and replace engine withi think its the 3st-ge? or something like that. Was wondering 2 things. Would insurance cover his engine if he crashed and is it a good idea?? Plz post..:dunno:

Insurance will cover his new engine if he crashes if he specifies to the insurnace company his car has that engine and is willing to add it onto his insurance.

However with that engine his insurnace will go up drastically.
If you're telling him not to buy a new car because of insurance purposes.
I'd say if he still wants the engine drop it in the car but don't tell the insurance company.

However insurance will not cover it if he gets in an accident that way.

figure it'll cost less in the end then getting charged like 60 bucks a month extra :s

they will charge you just as much with the new engine being covered if not more.

And engine swap is an automatic * street race indicate * which insurance companies will rape u for.

Get the car and purchase the new engine and dont tell them.
if he does get in an accident though it just won't be covered.
The old engine will however.

I wanted a 4th gen SRV prelude
or a 5th gen VTEC prelude.
both with the 190 - 195 hp VTEC engine.
Insurance was to much.

so I got a 1992 prelude with a F22a 135 hp engine.
I'm going to do a JDM h22a engine swap to get my 200 hp vtec engine.
i'm not going to tell the insurance company so my insurance stays at 2700 a year instead of 5000 a year.

For starters, its a 3S-GTE. Implying its the turbo engine out of the celica alltrac. 1st gen GTE is out of an 86-89 alltrac, 2nd is out of a 90-93 alltrac. And a 3rd gen 3S-GTE was only in the 94-99 celica gt4 in japan. This engine will produce the most horsies. But none of these will go into the 7th gen celica without major modification. My suggestion is he get an older celica and then try to track down the turbo motor and drop it right in (provided you have ecu and wiring harness and various other crap). It will not go into the 7th gen without a major major hassle. Your best bet for the new celicas is maybe a 2JZ-GTE which I doubt you will find and still won't bolt up. So Ideally any celica from 86-99 preferably the gt or gts models will accept the powerhouse that is the 3S-GTE with no fabrication (ie. everything fits in the engine bay)

There's no way in hell that a 2jz would fit in there, lol

But everything else you said schmooot is right.

thanks chris, I couldn't remember what it was. I seem to recall an easy swap into the 7g maybe I was mistaken.
