So, in the quest for finding the perfect car. Ive found that there are many more available in the states for me to buy.

I do know that bringing the car back across the border, that Id have to pay duties and taxes.

But what I dont know, is how to get the car across the border....I mean

how do I deal with insurance?

Am I able to insure the car in the states? or would I have to truck the car across the border?

and

Once back in canada, am I able to buy insurance for the car, prior to an OOP?
thanks

Here's some importing info but it's BMW-specific. There's some general info that could be of some use.

For general information on importing, www.riv.ca

In my experience, I was able to get insurance on the vehicle before the sale was completed. All I needed was the basic vehicle info and the VIN. Once that was done, I had a temp insurance card issued to me. When in the USA, you won't have a plate but you can get temporary "in transit" permits which cost like $1-$5.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!! THIS HAS BEEN COVERED APPROXIMATELY 2.2 MILLION TIMES

do a simple search for something like "importing cars from USA" or something of that sort and you will get a ton of results
