View Full Version : Infinity G35 - Now there is a nice car

I saw a nice white Infinity G35 2 door coupe today that was stunning to look at. This car was stopped at the lights on 8th ave and there were two young guys who walked off the sidewalk to take a look at it. This car looks good to both young and old. I think it looks better than the new 350z and with a 280 hp engine it should be a good performer too. Definately the luxury car I would buy. Anyone else feel the same way?

Well dammit, from the side the 350z looks better, but i still like the g35 coupe rear better. I think the sedan looks pretty nasty though, it just doesn't seem right.

The trackpack is lighter, not by much.......the main feature is the Brembo Big Brake Kit with 4 piston calipers! Madd braking power! And it has a rear spoiler, doesn't have leather and the stereo upgrades.......thats all I can think of......

i would go for the 350z...simply because it is more of a drivers car.

the g35c is bogged down by insulation, plushy materials, and a further back driver position. its slower, handles less aggressively, doesnt stop as well....and is basically a car for any old lady that cash to blow.

yup, its a gorgeous car.
I've pondered on selling my car a few times for it.
But not too seriously..haha
i think its quite a bit nicer than the 350z as well, and the interior is alot nicer on the g35

all i can think of is the mad power that you could get out of that engine... HKS is prototyping a kit that is supposed to make 400hp easy.

I went to look at both cars today. I'm in love  with the Nissan 350Z. I like it better than my car. They only require a $1000 deposit but there is a 12-month waiting list. The salesguy said there will be a convertible version out next year and there are already 2 people on the waiting list for the convertible. It might even be a hard top convertible. As for the non-convertible version, there are 36 orders and they allocate 2 per month.

I wanted to test drive the G35 coupe but they said that people were only allowed to test drive the sedan and that the one on the lot could only be test driven by people which placed orders. The salesguy said that there is a $2500 deposit which is unbelievably high and that they allocate 10 per month. There is a 6-month waiting list and they've presold 50-something which also seems a little too high.

If the 350Z becomes a hard top convertible, what is the point of the coupe then?

But man, I would buy one for sures! I love hardtop convertibles haha its like 2 in 1 !!!!

the salesman also should have mentioned that the 6speed model comes with the brembo brakes, which im sure factors into the premium over the auto.

I do it all the time, who needs to test drive a car, it is all about image. Just joking but my parents have bought a couple of cars by just stepping into the dealership without a clear intention of buying a new car. Their current car they own now, they did not test drive it.

Depends on the car and the time, I guess.

When the WRX's were introduced here just over a year ago, you had to "conditionally buy" it before Centaur would let you take it out. All this for a $35,000 car? Charles English didn't have that stupid policy.

At the same time, I test drove a new 540i which is about the same money (mid-$70's) as a new M3, but there were no demo M3's. Only way to drive one is wait for a used on to show up.

During this summer, Hyatt had only one G35 to test drive, so you had to make an appointment for a short test drive.

Yellow_Fly_Red
12-03-2002, 01:52 AM
Hey guys......

you know what...

If you have the patience... then just wait a couple of years when the initial RUSH dies down and the dealerships will be BEGGING you to buy the cars from them.. or you can probably get a used 350Z or G35 coupe for high 30'-low 40's....

Look at the demand for the Honda's S2000 when it first came out...
it was unbelievable... waiting lists, dealer markups,... people buying the car just to sell it to someone else for a profit....
and look at it now... you can get a 2001 Honda S2000 with less than 20,000KMs for about $41-$43,000... I was out shopping for them with a friend during the summer. Turns out, the car is just a bit too impractical and too 'rough' for me...

How about the initial demand for the WRX??
not a big as the S2000, but still a huge initial demand... but you can get one easily now....

Just be patient... if you can contain the desire to be the first kid in your block to have one of these cars, then u can save yourself a bunch of money and hassels...

having said all this.... I might be putting down a deposit on the NEXT Gen SLK30 AMG
Reason is that these cars are impossible to find used... unless Kenny is planning to sell his SLK 32AMG
hahahaaha...
anyways... production is limited on these cars and the total production amount is usually less than the demand...

I think Rage is still waiting for his SLK32AMG...
right?? rage??

G35c is a beautiful car for sure. It is the luxury line version of the 350z, so maybe they'll throw in some performance enhancements to justify the extra cost.

Either way, you can't lose with a optioned 350z or a G35c. Styling? I guess it depends on what you're into. I don't know if either is really "aggressive" BUT the 350z has more straight lines --- a futuristic racer look. The G35c has slightly curvier lines for the traditional luxury / less sporty (in appearance) crowd. I think the 350z looks sportier/edgier and the g35c looks curvier thus softer.

I'd go for the Z, the Z-badge looks like a friggin superhero's logo
The only thing I don't know about the 350z is that door handle, have to see how it feels, never used one of those sideways doorhandles.

Sidenote: On both cars the, have you ever noticed how the fuel door seems to be positioned kinda low. I haven't stood beside the car yet, so I don't know if its tall or what, but the gas tank door looks low-ish.

Autozine claims that the G35 is..

* Not much of a Skyline anymore. No more Inline 6 engine. Platform sharing with many other nissan cars. No more 4-circle rear lights. Like a BMW Saloon.
* Excellent aerodynamics. CD is 0.27 or even 0.26 with aero pack.
* Cheaper and worse trim than BMW 3 series
* Understeers early. Lacks the precise control and feeling of BMW 3 series. Its steering is too light and oversensitive. Mercedes C-class and BMW better handling.

In the end, all road testers agreed that the new Skyline or Infiniti G35 is not in the league of BMW 3-series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-class.
