How do you open the clear plastric covering over the instument cluster in a 1997 BMW 328 is? Please help.

its probally like most othercars, the clear plastic sheild will be plastic welded to the cluster its self... so you need to drill out the welds and it should open up

Look around, but I believe that you have to put the cluster in your oven to heat the glue around the edge of the face.... good luck. Let us know what you did...:thumbsup:

there's a how-to on bimmerforums I believe...just search on there.

I think it starts by taking the two screws off the top, and then the cluster almost slides right out...after clips...I don't know just search;)

I know. I've done it... many times.


Depending on your cluster there will be a bunch of allen screws on the back OR some allen screws and a couple of latches that must be opened. Once you have the back part of the cluster off you'll have to remove the gauges one by one and then you can get into the front (asuming you're changing the face of the cluster?) OR get creative to release the glue.
