You might be better off buying a new one.

Or try warranty.

i called A&B sound and they said there nothing they can do. I totally understand this, but i didnt ever really push my speakers at all!! i am serious, i havent even had these for long enough to have a chance to crank them up. I just noticed that the sound was a little fuzzy today, so i pulled off the cover and found the hole.

The guy at A&B sound told me to put some silicon to seal the hole. Has anyone tried this?

I got the VR525 Csi

Yea, I thought they would be pretty durable.
Now I'm gonna think twice before turning up my stereo.

how much did yours cost?? where did u buy them?

is it common for speakers to be blown where mine did? i wouldve thought the speakers would normally be blown in the middle part and not on the outside rubber edge.

I paid $300 for them at A&B Sound.

They're better than my stock blown speakers! hahaha.
I'm kinda scared tho, cuz I'm starting to hear a slight slight crackling in my passenger front speaker.
And I've had them in for less than a week.

take your cover or door panel off and check your wires, sounds like one is not connected fully.

with a hole in em.......maybe try silicone, but I doubt it. The crackling on bub_bub's is probably the speaker wire.

do speakers usually blow where mine blew?? could it be defective cause i seriously havent turned these speakers up. I have turned up my stock speakers way more than these.

the speaker looks to be blown on the rubber surround. i don't think that kind of a hole would result because u were turning them up too loud. it looks like someone poked it.

do you think i could have a case to plead to JL audio? i mean, i really really dont want to buy another set of XR's...too $$!!

Not sure which models you guys are referring to but I have a set of 3 8W6 and they've held up for so long with no probs.

In fact, I've never heard any problem with the *W6 series with all my "SPL" friends.

Did you install the speakers yourself? It looks like someone put a screwdriver through it... If you didn't install it I would bitch like mo'fu to get a new speaker.

If you installed it your probably screwed...

you wouldn't rip the surround from turning the speakers up, you would blow up your vc. who installed them?? if a shop installed them try hasseling them and tell them they put the hole there and if it was you warrenty won't cover you because you are probably not a licensed installer.

blowing speakers doesn't ever mean there is visible damage. just a saying. when you blow a speaker, it means your voice coil has burned. unless you are seriously over powering a subwoofer whose cone actually has some weight momentum, moving full excursion, surrounds dont separate or tear like that one did.

next time, go to future shop, get some infinity's with a performance plan. that way you can burnem up and bringem back.

he didnt blow his speakers..
theres a whole in it.. probably damaged when they did the install

one of my JL subs seperated from the spider. some silicone sealant and some patience fixed it right up...

where yours is it MIGHT work, you'd have to reinforce it with some fabric or something behind the tear though.

That speaker is repairable.

All you have to do is get some epoxy, and be very careful and put the epoxy to cover the hole. If you do it right, it should be structurally similar to what it was before.

I've seen a few speakers get similar damage from not properly warming them up. When you live in Calgary and have to suffer the winters sometimes it's necessary to warm up you car before playing the stereo too loud. When it gets too cold the surrounds will start to harden and get a little brittle and sometimes if there is too much excursion they will tear. I sort of doubt that's what happened in this case since it hasn't been very cold yet but it's something for everone to think about.

I repaired a 3/4 of a ripped speaker surround on an orion sub with a product called GOOP. This was in grade 10 when i didn't any extra money to buy another. It NEVER came apart after a year. My current 7 year old crankenstiens have also been repaired by GOOP after i put my screwdriver through the surround. Its still OK after 7 years.
Humor me! I dont think silicone will work very well.
I hit 139.2 DB with those 2 10" subs:D
