View Full Version : sub cutting out when car is on but not when off

my sub and amp work perfectly when my car is turned off but when i start it my sub goes quiet and dies,does anybody know what my problem is,

im running a legacy 2000watt amp and a 15 inch in phase sub,

This is just a thought but maybe it could be the wiring hook up or a fuse!

its a mercedes 200,im running a 2000 watt legacy amp and a 15inch sub,it works fine when the car is turned off,everything great,but if i start the car the sub works at low volume but when i turn the vollume up the sub dies(the protector l;ight opn the amp comes on,,even with everything else in the car turned off,i have tried it with the car running and the amp powered by a totally seperate battery and it works then

Are you maxing out the load your alternator can handle?

ok,just took a look at it and it only has this problem on the one channel,the other channel works fine,its a two channel anp and i only use one channel,

Sounds like your amp is on its way out. Use the other channel until it dies, and then buy a smaller amp (1500 watts is quite the load for a stock alternator).

Btw - its NOT a fuse :rofl:

Yeah if it's not your amp ... definetly an alternator issue. You could look at upgrading the alternator. At another forum I visit they suggest a website called Mr. Alternator (http://www.mralternator.com/main.shtml). Though I can't vouch for them myself. Good to talk to your installer about some options.

i suggest upping your wire gauge.... with a 2000 watt amp id be running minimum 4 gague wire.. however i suggest 0 gauge or 00 and possibly a cap... :thumbsup: i had an issue with my amp turning off and it turned out just to be wire size... try it... its a pretty cheap fix..
