Im currently an unclassified student taking some first year engineering courses, amat 217 and math 221, i need roughly a 3.1 or 3.2 to transfer into engineering next year. Im also upgrading some highschool on the side. Just wondering if anyone has an advice for an easy course next semester that can be used in engineering, im taking amat 219 and need someting to boost my gpa so i can get the required transfer gpa, any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's no easy engineering courses you can take, you'd be better off taking options and using those to transfer over, like CPSC203 or Econ201...shit like that

It might be different for unclassified students though, but those kinda courses should be considered in your GPA so yeah

yea sorry i meant like options that are still applicable to engineering. I think because im unclassified i can take anything, but i still want something that isnt completley usless towards engineering. I hope i dont sound completely lost here.

Check out the list of options that you can choose from to apply towards ENGG...
some easy ones are Econ201, Psych 205

Coms 363 or 361 is mandatory... i would recommend taking 363 with B Hatton... almost a guaranteed A there.

I was in the same position last year sort of, trust me just take easy ass shit like psych 205 and econ201 and stuff, dont' worry about trying to get credit for engg classes...just GET IN ENGG FIRST!!!!!!

Well psyc 205 isn't THAT easy, don't do shit all an expect an A. You gotta keep up with your readings and there is a good amount of work involved, however the 2/3 midterms thing is pretty key..

Been a while since I graduated from Engg, but some suggestions are to take your ENGG 209 (engineering economics), also take your GNST 341 and COMS 363 or 361. Then you need two options that will count for engineering. I took Psyc 205 and CLST 209 (don't think that exists no more).

CPSC 203 and ECON 201 don't count, they are easy but there really is no reason to waste more money at the university when there are core courses that you should be taking.

True, it'd be better to take courses that are applicable to engineering, but being in the situation he's in right now, I think it'd be much better to take at least 1 course that's a real easy A..like Marsh said, worry about getting into Engineering first.

Well GNST 341 and COMS 363 is an easy A if your english is decent.

ENGG 209 doesn't change from year to year so the notes are the same and the quizzes are similar every year. This is an easy A as well.

I am sure you can find options that are easy A that also meet the options requirements that engineering specifies. I would go to the undergrad office and get a list of complementary courses and you can choose from there.

I got A's in all those courses and he should be able too. And
at $600+ a course (when I was in uni) its not worth the money to fool around.

I'm taking Coms363 right now, not a single person I talk to who's taking that has even gotten an A on any assignment. I heard they amped it up the past few years... who knows

If you take it w/ Brian Hatton, then you're pretty much guaranteed an A if you hand in all your assignments! They may have changed the course content/curriculum to make it harder, I don't know, but still, Hatton is the way to go! However, his lectures are probably always the first ones to get filled up, & I doubt there will be any openings for the Winter...

astr203 if you need/want a science option.
can't go wrong with cpsc203
or if you don't mind, and are good at writing writing essays, lwso classes are fairly easy

COMS 363 is easy depending on which prof you get. It varies from prof to prof as there are so many of them.

Hey Playa...

I took a University level class called "Principles of Psychology".

Half way through the year I decided playing hacky sack was more important than going to class.

Still pulled off an A-

ENGG 205 Mechanics isn't too bad.

there are no give-away-marks courses. i'd say the easiest ones that I've taken are economics 201, math 221 and comp sci 203. economics 201 is purely a test/exam subject. so if you know your stuff and stay on top, there is not much work for you to do. math 221 is the same, just stay up to par. comp sci 203 requires more attention in the sense that there are alot assignments. however, all of them are quite easy but at the same time could keep you busy. it's not as easy as it seems. although the course is very common sense based, there is quite a bit of technical knowledge involved too. you can't take/use cpsc 203 as an engg option, but econ is an option (alot of engineers use) and math 221 in mandatory. engineers ultimately don't have alot of "options" anyway.

ONLY TAKE ASTR 205 FROM LOURO! Unfortunately that means you'll have to take ASTR 205 on Saturday or during the spring. Actually, I've heard that Langill is OK for ASTR 205 as well, but whatever you do, don't take ASTR 205 from Plume or Taylor, unless you're a masochist who's good at math. When I took 205 from Louro there was no math, making the class a very enjoyable A. It was quite an informative and interesting class as well, and Louro is a great guy. Loved the tangent that he gave us one time about the "little joys of childhood"..."Who has ever gone up a down escalator? Who's ever thrown their vegetables under the table when their parents wern't looking?" and so on. I was laughing too hard to recall the entire list.

thanks for all the replies, after reading them all and seeing which classes are still available ive basicaly narrowed it down to econ 201 and GRST211 seeing as how com 363 with B Hatton is already full. Now my only concern is Tux 10 said that econ201 doesnt count, but i got one of those sheets from the engineering department and its on the list of acceptable courses for complementary studies, so i was wondering if you could clarify what you meant by doesnt count. So yea its between econ201 and GRST211, if anyone could let me know about their experiences in either and which they would recomend and with which prof, thanks again. Also feel free to recomend more classes.

only take grst 211 if you

a) have firneds who are in sci and know that shit or have taken it

b) are willing to help you do it

thats what I think..since it's latin medical terms..or something of that

BloodBaneZXY
11-16-2004, 03:45 PM
Hrmm, well I have the option of taking two of these three..

GRST211
Econ201
CPSC203

Quite a few of my friends are doing GRST211, and I've heard it's supposedly REAL easy..but now I'm starting to reconsider that approach..

Is it really that bad?

Also, I'm in GRST205 which is supposed to be the busy one, and I can't really deal with that and finance at the same time :thumbsdow

What's a 200 level class without a huge workload?

Tux10
11-16-2004, 04:56 PM
Econ 201 was not a valid course when I was in Engg... they might have changed it now. If its on the list of acceptable courses, then go for it.

If your taking a bunch of easy courses like econ201, grst 211 I will stress again that you should spend that time taking one or two engg courses cause this will be your only semester with a minimal workload. Once you get into engg you will be swamped with work. Math 221 is a good suggestion and is relatively little work, just gotta know your matrices and vectors.

Or if you have a lot of free time, Finish off Engg201 cause that will be the BANE of your first year as the labs take 3 hours to do and 6+ hours to write up or 3 hours to write up if you have a road map (just don't screw up like my friend and copy the wrong chemicals...)

Are you taking ASTR 205 next semester? If so I would suggest that you look at Taylor's rating on the InfoNet and compare the with Louro's...there's a HUGE difference. Furthermore, you can compare their ratings on ratemyprofessors.ca right here:

Ratings for Taylor:
http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=305546

Ratings for Louro:
http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=39554

Looking at those ratings would be more than enough to convince me to take ASTR on Saturday mornings with Louro than on MWF afternoons with Taylor. Expect a lot more work in Taylor's class...I heard he made his class do a stupid project where you had to make observations every day for several monthswhen he taught the course last year, plus he uses a ton of math. When I took ASTR 205 from Louro in Winter 2003 there was practically no math whatsoever.

Thanks Tux10, but I'm already knocking off about 4 engineering courses, so it'll help quite a bit hopefully..Now I just need some easy options to boost the rest up nicely..we'll see how it works out..

Yea right now im taking math221 and amat 217 and plan on taking amat 219 nextsemester, so ill have three coure subjects out of the way. I want to take one option to boost my average so yea its either econ201 or grst211. Thanks tux10 and everyone else for all the help.

Arghh yeah..GRST211 or Econ201? Which is easier?! Anyone have experience?

Tux10
11-18-2004, 04:03 PM
I don't know which one of those are easier, but I can tell you that taking Econ 201 might help you out in Engg 209 as you learn some of the things that Engg 209 will teach there.

Just thought I would mention that cause it might help you decide.
