third gens had two differnet styles. 88-89 had different tails then the 90-91. Also had a different front and rear bumpers as well as I believe the engines were about .1L different.

There was also an SR on the 90-91.

I read somewhere the rear wheels turn opposite to the front.

Ya the rear wheels do turn the oppisite direction about 30 degrees or so (?) under something like 60km/h. After that, they turn the same direction a slight degree so you can switch lanes on the highway and such very smoothely. It was an option on all the 3rd gens and I really wish I had it, but I got a good deal on my car so I picked it up. Also, I've heard that if anything goes wrong with it, it will be a significant cost to repair parts, and it's very hard finding a proper mechanic that knows what the heck they are doing with 4WS. Two guys in the Canadian Tire shop (I asked them) didn't know what 4WS was....lol:dunno:

Would be a cool 'mod' to make the rear-wheels turn the same direction as the front wheels...you could drive diagonally...haha..

Didn't some people on here say that 4WS handling suck??

they took it out because nobody bought them. It cost around the same price as a VTEC, and people didn't care that much about handling vs. power. I think they got rid of it in 93 or 94.

from what I've read, the 4th gens that had them were the SR models and some of the VTEC models in japan had them in 92. On the SR's it was electronically calculated and was not mechanical like the 3rd gens. It was based on how much torque was placed on the wheels, speed of the vehicle, etc. and from this the computer would adjust the angle of the rear wheels. I read that they changed it out in favor of ATTS on the 5th gens.

I had it on my 3rd gen and I loved it. It's biggest attribute was negotiating turns and tight corners in parking lots as well as parallel parking. On the street, it was noticeable but nothing a good suspension couldn't rival, but a good suspension and 4ws could make for some fun driving!
