NFSU 2 Sound problem

so i got the game and for the first part its all good everything works nice and smoothe, then i get in to game play, and like as soon as you start driving the 350z the calls that you get start skipping, then the music starts skipping, then the movies start skipping then when i enter a shop the game freezes what gives?

is there a patch or something i failed to install?

apearantly The game doesnt like my Smartjoy USB to PS2 adapter, as soon as i unplug it everything works fine
