At about 7:30 PM on Saturday the 30 November 2002 a male culprit stole a semi-tractor and trailer from 36 Ave just
west of Edmonton Trail NE. The owner of the of the semi, had just parked the truck and trailer, which was empty, left it
running and was in the nearby office when he heard it being driven off. The owner, his son and a friend then jumped into
the owners gray pickup truck and followed the stolen semi. They caught up to the semi at about 30 Ave NE and Edmonton
Trail NE. The culprit stopped the truck, jumped out and got into a green Voyager van driven by a female that had been
following behind the stolen semi. The owner of the truck then forced the green Voyager to the side of the road about
half a block further south on Edmonton Trail NE. The female driver of the green Voyager van then tried to flee the scene
by making a u-turn, hit the curb and then backed into and hit a silver Olds Cutlass that had been north bound on Edmonton
Trail NE. The owner of the semi and his friends were struggling with the female culprit when the male culprit took
the opportunity to steal the semi owners gray pick-up truck and fled southbound on Edmonton Trail. The male culprit
returned to the scene a moment later in the stolen gray pickup truck and drove into the green Voyager van in an
apparent attempt to assist the female culprit. While trying to stop the male culprit the owner of the semi and the pick
up truck gained entry to the vehicle from the passenger side and grabbed the steering wheel. This caused the pickup to
mount the east sidewalk and plow northbound striking a bus bench and through a fence into the backyard of a residence.
The victim’s son attempted to stop the stolen pickup and was dragged about half a block before falling off the truck and
was taken by EMS to Foothills Hospital suffering from minor injuries. While all this activity was occurring the female
culprit then jumped into the silver Olds Cutlass that she had previously hit and fled the scene northbound on Edmonton
Trail NE.
The male culprit was held by the original victim, his friends and passersby until police arrived. About 20 minutes later
the silver Old Cutlass stolen by the female culprit was located at 36 Ave and Edmonton Trail NE near where the semi
-trailer had been originally stolen.
Shortly after these events the green Voyager van was reported stolen from the Deerfoot Mall. The owner had been shopping
in the mall.
