I been thinking latey about trading in my 97 BMW 528i for a Mini Cooper S. Anyone think they are a good car?

The S imo is a good car
its light and not too shabby on power

I would buy one as another car
but i personally probably wouldn't have it as my daily driver

just my .02 :)

They look like pretty interesting rides. Shadow Tinting has a couple of regular Coopers, they've been autocrossing with them and stuff. The interiors are pretty nice, interesting layout. Good power, great handling and fantastic stopping power. Not sure I'd own one, but they certainly do look interesting.

hmmmm.....a BMW 5 series or a Mini......can't beleive you're even contemplating that.:banghead:
stick with the Bimmer and forget about the little keychain car.
Just my opinion.

Those Minis sure do handle awesome at the local AutoX. Depends on what you're looking for I guess, high performance (Mini) or luxury (528).

I'd buy one in a heartbeat for its price point

only one thing puts me off from it : FWD.

How much would a Mini set you back?

Who's to say his 5-series isn't 15 years old? :dunno:

I'm to say his 5-series isn't 15 years old - it's a 1997! It's his choice of course, just can't see why he would!:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

yeah it says 97 in his first post.

still, i wouldn't look at MOST cars if i had a 97 528i, that is an awesome car with crazy potential.

and for 30 grand!?!?!? you would REALLY have to just want one for the sake of wanting one for that kinda cash.

for 30K you could get a Celica, RSX...need i go on?

just doesn't make sense to me.:dunno:

and the mini is faster and handles better, whats your point?

my point is that the car looks like it belongs on my keychain, not on a track...that's just my opinion of course.
i just don't like the car, especially for 30k.
in case you're wondering, i have read the specs on it, which are fine, i just don't like the package that it comes in, that's all.

the mini cooper S base is 18k i just recently went to a dealer. and i added all the options costed 24k. and if i did a trade it my 5 series would be worth 24k (only 50k miles) but then I have to pay the spare change from my own pocket...

my 5 series is automatic, and was orginally my parent's car, so i wanted a stick. either than i get a used car and spend the rest on tuning...

It's entirely your choice, but the quality and performance of the 5 series is better IMO than a Cooper S. Resale value on the Cooper should stay high, I imagine, as they are hard to find and rare right now.

If you like it, go ahead. I've also heard that a cooper S (aren't those ones supercharged or something?), was hitting 30k, which I don't think is worth it, but for 20k, it's a decent buy.

yea they supercharged, and i asked the sales if i bought every option along, he told me it be around 24-25k with change.

the regular cooper starts at base 16k.

the little tach on the steering wheel is cool.
