To tell you the truth, i haven't checked that out, because

1. i only use one brand of media
2. it was removed, i checked functionality

However, it does say CD-R CD-RW capable and as long as you use decent media it should be fine. I can tell you that I tested the deck with the CD's from the blank 100-spindles for $20.
