hey guys , i was just wondering if there are any owners of these two cars out there, maybe you can give me some info on which ones better for cost and maintanence. I never owned a new car. Ive heard that dealers try to rape you when you go in for service to keep up your warranty.
well my choices are either a 02 or 03 acura TL type S or a 04' 05 accord coupe 6speed
there both about the same price , the acura being around 32K slightly used and the honda 33ish K brand new

TL - better equipped, more luxurious, and just as much power.

I drive a 2003 Acura 3.2TL non type s, 5 speed auto daily and it's a great car to tool around in. I do mostly highway drives in it ans it's given me no issues.

depending how much you want a new car..

though those used TL's will still be under factory warranty (which is a plus)

I say TL -> more luxury...better looks (debateable)

IMHO Accord Coupe, but I am biased. If you were opting for the new TL I would change my opinion, but the new Accords really have blurred the line between the luxury one would expect to find in the last generation TL/CL's. I also highly prefer sport over utility, but not like you're going to find much that an Accord Coupe can't do that a TL can besides the extra doors. If you were going for a 5spd Auto V6 I would maybe think about the TL, but the 6spd can be a damn fast car. TL has the edge in power if you like to talk strictly engine numbers, but the gearing and weight of the 6spd Accord make it faster.

I would prefer to have a brand spanking new car. I would take an 05 Accord Coupe 6spd leather.

if u want acura but want the coupe could always look into a slightly used 03 CL-S with the 6spd

accords warranty will obviously last longer. its just a question of sedan VS coupe (unless u take cl-s into consideration)
longer waranty VS luxury features/better badge
plus the accord comes with 6 spd tranny

i would personally go with acura cl-s 5 spd stnrd

i dont mind a 4 door in the acura , its just the accord 4 door is soooo UGLY looking, thats why im considering the coupe

I would stay far away from the TL. The problems with the transmission have sent the resale of that car into the ground and it will continue to do so once the extended warranty is up at 160k.

Do a search over at the TL/CL forums on this topic.

I would personally pic the accord coupe....they are pretty sweet looking cars.

TL-S - slightly outdate look but graceful
ACV6 - new look isn't that great but interior and what's under the hood is awesome.

i own an 01 CL Type S and LOVE it. No problems with the tranny so far (38 XXXkm's) and Acura has extended the tranny warranty on the TL/CL's

Do not get a TL.

You will have tranny problems. If I am not mistaken, Honda has acutally recalled the transmission. The replacements is a refurbished (think used) transmission from a car that has already had it failed.

The 02 and 03 TL Type S has 260 hp going through an autotragic. Even though it is a 5 speed, Honda got the ratios wrong and it is built more for highway cruising than for get up and go.

The 05 Accord Coupe is underated with the 6 speed. It is pushing a lot more than the advertised 240 hp. Check the dynos on the net.

I would do some research on the following sites:

http://www.v6performance.net (mostly Accord V6 owners, both 6th and 7th generation)

http://www.acura-tl.com
http://www.acura-cl.com
http://www.vancouveraccords.com
http://www.torontoaccords.com

I had a 6th generation Accord V6 coupe. The transmission was on it's way out before I got rid of it. It has the same problems as the CL/TL/Odyssey of the same years.

The 6 speed is probably a better tranny.

Unless there has been something new in the past 6 months, I have not yet heard of a recall. All it is is a service bulletin....they know of the problem and will fix it when it breaks. The warranty is only up to 160 000km as well. That was the last I heard of it anyways when I was searching for one back in April.

Here is an exerpt.

Honda’s North American recall includes 2003- and 2004-model Accords, 2000- through early 2004-model Acura TL sedans, and 2001- through 2003-model Acura CLs, Boyd said. In April, the company recalled 600,000 U.S. and Canadian Odyssey minivans, and Pilot and Acura MDX sport-utility vehicles with the same transmission.

redec was looking for the same segment of cars. Acura TL, Honda Accord, etc. Ended up going with the 300C Hemi. Blows all those cars away for nearly the same money.

Holy sh*t , i was just reading the tl links , and i dont think im going to purchase one. there is a severe tranny problem with the car , owners on that forum have replaced there tranny's at least once or twice , some , 3 or 4 times. the warrenty only covers up too 160 000 k's after that your on your own
wow i didnt expect acura to make such a bad product
thanks for pointing me in the right direction benyl

The last gen TL type-s is pretty fast, but the 7th gen accord 6spd might be even faster. Interior wise, the accord might actually be better, since it is a more current model, I have heard TL users complain the current accord is as luxury as their TL. Plus the 6spd Accord is a rare animal and a sleeper. So get the Accord.

had a tl type s, a few weeks after i got it i felt the transmission wasn't right, took it to the dealer they said everything was fine, 6 months later it got replaced, never told me it was refurbished but oh well. the car is very nice but too much torque steer. go 300C for many reasons or used 3 series or c-class dependant what your want

rwd is as easy as fwd in the winter in my opinion

just get winter tires and don't be stupid

and plus im sure the is300 has VSC which helps a bit

The IS300 is well over $40,000 closer to $50,000 brand new. For that kinda cash, buy a BMW 330i.

Maintenance (oil changes) are very expensive on the Lexus.

is300 is ur best bet then...its got potential for performance aswell( i guess all ur options do, but this one more so).

what i'd do tho is buy this wicked C43 AMG, its at lonestar (not the best dealer but a wicked car), has 80 000 k's, local car, all records, and was owned by some hockey player who was/is on the flames. its black and has 2 sets of wheels... i love this car:drool:
