Get a 5-speed base, then go buy an LSD.

SH is top model...they stopped making it in 2000..and replaced it with the SE...which is basically the same sans the sequential sportshift..which was ghey anyways (IMO)

SH is a pain in da ass to mod...engine wise...plus its heavier...just ask Max_Boost.
i agree with 5gluder...base is better.

SE = 2001

From and article:

Conventional transmissions have an open differential. This allows both wheels to spin independently. Under certain conditions, having them spin independently isn't ideal (launching). At the same time, having them both spinning at the same rate isn't a good solution either (a welded differential doesn't take turns gracefully). Enter the limited slip differential. This mechanical device replaces your open differential and allows your wheels to spin independently. Once a certain threshold of wheel slippage happens, the LSD causes power to be transferred to the wheel with more traction. This allows engine power to be put down during huge torque launches or powering through a turn.

US still had SH in 2001. SE was only sold in Canada in 01 and it was a base model with SH wheels, CF interior trim and leather seats. Both the SE and the SH came with 5 speed or sport shift. The differences between an SH and an SE is that SH has ATTS, no center brake light (cuz of spoiler light), and body colored rear and side mouldings.

Type S is not the base model, it is the top model in Japan. The base model here is called "the base model". Some people call it the "S", but I have no idea where that came from.

Cars are pretty much the same power wise ....... I have seen some 5th Gen Preludes go for $15K in Ontario

Don't get a Sport Shift aieeee :(

Base Model 5th gen is best...

I've heard alot of negative stuff about ATTS, says it hinders the car rather than helping, I dont' remember the exact details it was off preludeonline.com

Cars are cheap in Ontario. There are a bunch of E36M3's going for high 20's here.

Yes, do not buy the SS, not reliable at all :(

The ATTS unit also conflicts with an assortment of mods. Your better off buying the base and throwing in the aftermarket LSD, they preform better than the ATTS unit.

Actually, 97-98 had 195hp while the 90-01 models had 200hp.

But if you are planning on getting one, I would get a SE or base.
I'm sure there's still a couple SE's kickin around dealerships around Calgary, and they are letting them go at a pretty good price.

And If you plan on doing major mods to the car, I would stay away from a SH. The SH doesn't have as good aftermarket support as the SE or base, and if you plan on going turbo down the line, you have to disable the ATTS or have it taken out entirely (if they even make a kit for SH).

Ahh same sh!t different pile.....lol
Preludes are great looking cars! Only thing I hate are those stock bridgestone tires haha so make sure you get some winters on them during the cold season and buhbuh take it easy on the roads out there, i know you still got your 18s on

lammer

so
we have the

S.
SE
SH models?

buh_buh
12-06-2002, 01:27 AM
that is correct.
But S = SE

S and SE are basically the same thing, except SE had all the goodies from a SH.

Base is the best, the SH has problems with mods because of ATTS such as turbo kits dont work with the SH model a lot of companies say that the SH will not work the turbo kit

and they dont even out at all....the SHs are actually a little slower..in the straights anyway

The Type S is the JDM Model with 220Hp. There is no Prelude Type S in Canada.
