what's the best way to treat swollen/sprained ankle?

don't walk down the stairs when one of your foot is completely numb...not that I did that or anything....

Ice... don't use heat, that is an old wives tale.

once the swelling goes down, do some small foot/ankle exercises

When I went to physio for my ankles, when they were ever swollen, i moved my ankles from hot water to cold water keep my foot in each for a minute. do that about 5 times. I guess it gets the blood flowing.

Use an anklewrap to make it stiff.
Wrap it tight enough so that your ankle isnt constantly moving around.

^^ Exactly..I've sprained my ankle numerous times..and that always works best..

I've also tried another remedy (I sprained my ankle before grad and wanted it to heal faster) which is like..a paste made of egg yolk and tumeric (my doctor told me about it!). Despite the fact that it stained my foot yellow for a few days, the swelling decreased significantly, so you might wanna consider that.

Yeah, what they said... RICE it... that's super important... and keep it wrapped if ur gonna be on it... but at nite try to keep it elevated, i know it's a super uncomfortable position to have to try to sleep in, but it helps!

Can you bear weight on the ankle? If not, get x-rays as it is a pretty common fracture. And yeah, RICE that ankle if it isn't.

Elevation is key, and ice it for as long as it's swollen...alot of doctors say the first day or two are the only days it needs ice...however, you should ice it at least 3 times a day until the swelling completely disapears

it seems to be ok now, the swelling is very minimal at best an d I am able to walk and put weight on my foot, just with a limp however.
so, it wasn't too bad/seems to be healing fine, but thanks for the advice!
