Classic clip. Villeneuve Sr. is a crazy man!

That is some unreal racing indeed. Thanks for the clip

I can't watch that lap without getting tears in my eyes, It's a thing of beauty, the greatest battle ever. All of Gilles abilities hurled at an oppenent in a much greater machine.. The Renault Turbos of that year were really dominant.

I'll try to find a link to it with the announcers, it's really exciting to hear them get all worked up!

Gilles seemed to magically be able to get traction on grass.. he did that lots :D

Sometimes it didn't work..

"My past is scarred with grief ...father, mother, brother, sister, wife ...my life is full of sad memories. I look back and I see my loved ones ...and among my loved ones I see the face of this great man: Gilles Villeneuve."

Enzo Ferrari on the death of Gilles Villeneuve

I found the Murray Walker version but it's David Hobbs commentary that really gets you fired up!

Here's the MW commentary.. I'll keep looking for the David Hobbs version.

that seems to me to be near the best battle i have seen, but not being a long time F1 individual, im wondering if there are any other clips of racing of this quality?

how about the Senna/Prost battle in Japan???

Dear Jesus God those cars are amazingly fast... nothing like I see these days.

I think some old F1 footage might be better for my dad than U2 Go Home! Anyone know of more of this good stuff on DVD?

I seriously can't believe those cornering speeds... absolutely insane. I couldn't love it more!:D

i've always wondered what woulda happend if jaques was given a ride at ferrari instead of williams. now that woulda been tense between shumi and jaques. or if gilles didn't die, would he have become a champion:dunno: that was a crazy battle, i'd like to find some old Gilles era or even late 80's F1 racing on dvd too. i've grown up a huge JV fan but i've never really been able to see gilles drive

nothing short of one of the most amazing moments i've seen in racing. definately if anyone can get late 80s F1 racing on dvd i want to know where.

You can get VHS tapes of old F1 stuff through Duke Video. I have a bunch of 'em.

They're starting to redo them as DVDs, and eventually all of them will be available.

My tapes that I bought are PAL. I have an old NTSC/PAL VCR that plays them.

12-11-2004, 05:51 PM
Yep, just get the NTSC version.

I have that on tape, it's great!

12-11-2004, 05:58 PM
all they had was PAL, where can i find it on NTSC??? i really want this one

Excellent driving!! What's the music playing the background as they duel it out? Reminds me of a Baileys commercial! lol

06-07-2005, 05:55 PM
You would swear they sped up the tape or something, they were going that fast... but it's amazing that they didnt wreck each other or something, it was that close.
