I was just wondering for those that go to full time school and have part time jobs. How many hours a week do you typically work and what kind of job are you working as a part time job. Thanks.

I go to school full time and have 2 part time/casual jobs... I WAS working over 40 hrs/week, but now I'm down to about 20-30. My jobs are really fun though... I ref basketball and volleyball for campus rec at the uni... I do official Canada West stats for the U of C football, volleyball and basketball teams... I was working at sport chek on top of that too but it got to be too much.

I usually work between 20-30 hours a week. Since it's XMAS time my boss is wanting to schedule me more but I got finals so I put a kibosh on that one.

I do retail sales.

Will I be able to continue working 30 hours per week if I take Chemical Engineering at the U of C? I know it's different for everyone, but I just need an idea.

I am currently in 1st year Engg and work around 30hrs/week. It is TOUGH, but do-able. You just have to make every second of your life productive!

I do 15 hours a week. I only work saturday and sunday, it works for me. Like Impreza said, you just have to use every spare moment you have.

only working ~ 7-8hours/ week here
not really for the money, just kind of my way of relieving some occasional stress. But when Final/midterm comes, that 7 hours still seems 7 hours too many

Thanks. the number of hours u work WILL affect your schooling...im in 4th year, and i cannot work any more than 5 hours without messing up my marks at least a bit. i usually work 10-15 hours anyway tho...no more.

people that work 20+ hours may manage it, but they are doing so at the expense of marks.

:werd: When I lived in Regina, I was only paying $200/mth for my place... so I didn't have to work much, came out of my second year with an 83% average... my marks transferred over here as a 3.45 GPA which was good enough to get me into kinese... but since I've had to work between 25-50 hrs/week since I moved here, I'm now sitting at a 68% avg... :thumbsdow

1st year ENGG
6 courses
~5 hours/week

In highschool I worked 35 hours a week, and now I probally could do 10-15 if I really wanted to. I just have stopped spending money, except on GB (ginger beef at oriental wok) and my measly paychecks more than cover that, lol. It depends on if you have to work to be able to drive. I know that paying for my car became the main reason for working in highschool. Now I've just accepted taking the bus until I have the time to work.:thumbsdow Maybe, just maybe next semester.

wow i cant believe the amount of engg guys that work so much. 6 classes per semseter and 20+ hour work weeks. I got friends in Engg that would crash and burn if they had even 5 hours of work per week. Mind you they are crazy study-aholics

I guess its all about how you spend your down time. I mean i take 4 courses and work 20 + hours but still find time for lots of down time, beyond.ca time, and of course drinking time.

ENG has lots of road maps, things don't tend to change very fast. Makes things a little easier.

roadmaps are nice but they don't make things that much easier. I was working a lot like almost 30hrs a week in the beginning of this semester and it definately showed on my midterms :thumbsdow but then my boss and workplace in general are really awsome to me and now i'm workin like 15 hrs a week and even got time off during exams. as long as finals go well i'm happy. u just gotta really manage your time well is all. something i didnt' know before lol.

and yea life now isn't good with pretty much all the money i make barely and just barely covering my expenses. oh well i'll put up with it for being able to drive rather than bussing it.

3 courses at mrc currently..averaging a 25hr work week :)

i have 4 courses at mrc next semester, and i need a job. i tried a semester w/o a job and it doesn't work for me. for this upcomming semester, i only work for 3 days a week, so i can work for 2 days, and still have the weekends off.

True working lots can affect your marks. Right now I'm only doing 3 classes cause alot of what I need wasn't available this semester or I didn't have the prereqs to take it but my GPA is still about a 3.5 while working 20-30 hrs a week. If you can manage your time wisely and have enough drive/motivation you can still work decent hours and get a good GPA.

I don't think I'll be working that much next semester though...probably 15-20 hours at MAX cause of my course load for next semester. But whatever...it's my part time job....not my career.

For some reason, the more I worked, the better my grades were :dunno:

But whatever...it's my part time job....not my career. i guess another factor is what classes ure taking. i literally spend 5-6 times more time/effort on my 4th year classes (like mechanisms of evolution) than i do on my 2nd year class...and back in the day when i could still take 1st year classes, i spent even less time on those haha...

as it is now, i feel like i shouldnt even be working...but somehow i am working 14 hours over the wknd when i have 5 exams next week

and really, the only reason im working is cuz all of the money goes into the car. i have enough money otherwise to pay for groceries and bills. wtf am i doing :dunno:
