Umm depends on what kind of compnay you want...if you're selling popcorn, you wont need much money...if you're selling diamonds, you'll need a ton.

My advice, take a business course

Ehhh....I don't think you should be asking for that kind of thing in a forum...
Better to ask other people in business/professors/consultants/bank personel, etc etc

i can tell right from your first post your gonna need some help to be succesful. You didnt specify what your selling, size of location, you want the highest rent areas in the city and your asking for help on a car forum? You ask how much it will cost and what you need to start yet no description is given. Good luck.

It'll cost you $3414.34 if you start now, or $4479.14 if you start tomorrow.

Your choice.

I decided to ask it here as Ive seen a couple of guys who started their own business

i've talked to it to 2 of my friends already ill ask my sister later on as she is majoring in business, but I dont know that much about business as Im majoring in petroleum engineering and not business management (maybe later on in my life).
cant say that much info about what it is all about as it will be the first of its kind in Canada afaik and the first one of its north american kind is in NY.

it just an idea right now, but Im just curious how to rent some space in downtown, preferably TD Square or Eau Claire Market and who to contact to open a business ( like City of Calgary?). Im looking for atleast 2000-3000ft^2

2000-3000 sq ft???????

what are you intending to sell anyways?

and pfft, business courses will help, but if you can get some
hands on/real world experience that's even better

One of the most succesful business men I know is a commerce drop out and learned everything over the years himself....hit and miss I guess

Talk to mall managers for renting information
and you will need to apply for a buisness liscense

Well if you are looking for 2-3000 sq ft of space downtown or in Eau Claire, you are looking at a pretty hefty lease payment. Keep in mind that is a lot of overhead for a business just starting out, you will need to make some pretty good profit. Phone the administration office of TD square and Eau claire to get pricing. Go to any registries to register your business, it doesnt cost too much. Look in the blue pages to get a GST number.

Registering a business is fairly cheap, 3000sq ft in TD square would not be... $5000/month im guessing

i will put it this way.
I looked into renting a kiosk at Chinnok and Market mall ,you know the little boths that sell wigs, sunglasses ect.

Chinnoki $68,000 a year or 15% of gross sales
Market $48,000 a year or 15% gross sales

Just to put it into perspective.
imajine 2-3000 sq ft

Have you been to Eau Claire lately? Notice all those vacant bays, that should just tell you how high a lease is there.
