Food is cheap, I have a hamster. Its like 4 bucks at wal-mart. Easy pet to maintain. Food bag lasts about half a year.

You should clean the cage (remove shaving and replace) once a week.

Its mostly when its just a baby but then you can lay off. My 4 times a year works well and he doesn't smell or anything. :dunno: But whatever floats your boat!

Well I'm just saying what is proper to take care of the animal, it should be weekly to keep it healthy.

I'd love this for my little brother for christmas. Think you can hold onto him until then? lol. May be a bit hard to keep him a secret for 3 weeks. I'll for sure take him though.

i don't think this is a great gift if your brother is really young considering the animal is 2 years old already, if u know what i'm trying to get at.

mods can delete this if i'm out of line, just a heads-up.

Also. Do you happen to know the average lifespan of a hampster? I've had one no longer than 4 years myself.

Usually about 3-5 years but my hamster had an outdoor habitat for the past 2 years so im pretty sure he has plenty of years to come.

I can hold the little guy for you if you want :) but just until before Christmas.

I can take him 2 days before christmas. I'm gong to want to come and see him before i pick him up though, obviously to check condition and make sure he wont die when i bring him home. etc.
