You mean the textured black plastic flares, or faded painted flares?
"Mothers back-to-black" for raw plastic trim; and
a Bodyshop for painted flares.

Regular Armor-all applications

Armor all only attracts dust and eventually deteriorates plastic/vinyl by drying it out.

peanut butter = no good

the vw guys new thing, which seems to be getting 100% awesome reviwes, is lightly going over them with a propane torch. Apparently, it works extremely well, brings them back to new condition

Peanut Butter is not bad. Messy and takes a long time but leaves a nice black look not too shiny. Looks more like newish plastic. Back to Black is ok but you will have to reapply every week. This gives you that shiny look.

The best overall is KIWI shoe dye NOT POLISH.....DYE. Not too shinny and easy to apply. Lasts long too.

I've tried almost everything out there. Damd you MKII VW's with your bumpers and flares!!!

most autobody supply companys have a black dye that will bring back the vibrant black of faded flat black plastic... USC auto supply had color match primers/bases for most stock plastics. I have used their GM DK Grey on many avalanches from 01-02 when they had the grey cladding, it took GM awhile to release the new black cladding, so i used the USC and painted right over it and made it DK grey

Apply it like shoe polish though? Just use a rag?

Where did you guys find the kiwi dye? I just went to two walmarts, they had the polish but not the dye.

(Edit: ah, just noticed this thread is a year old.)
