i went 2 trade my cav 2day at the dealer nd the guy said my car was rice but it ain`t that bad rite?. i`m tradin it in on monday next week 4 a 2000 civic si that is stock but has a cold air intake the dealer guy said it added 20 hp but when i wuz test drivin it didnt seem any better. :dunno:

I know I'm going to get flammed for this, but.... I'm not a fan of Cavaliers and Sunfires and all that. Honestly though.... from that photo, your car is actually really nice. I like that drifter front. I wouldn't mind seeing more photos. If you have 350,000+ kms on your car I could understand wanting ot get something else, but if your kms aren't that bad I wouldn't bother trading it in.

the dealer guy offered me $3100 4 the cav as trade in credit. i dunno i bot the car off my buddy's friend who was always goin up nd down 2 vancouver so teh kilometers r high! i drive it lots 2 i boguht the car it had 280 000 on the odo i put on the rest.

also i`m the one who put on the body kit. it came with the front end. mid hight spoiler. oem factory skirts. oem factory rear skirt.

I don't think its really THAT rice. But to someone who isn't into cars, any sport compact that's done up is rice. So rice isn't really defined the same for everyone.

I understand it's your car and it's your taste, but if you're looking for opinion, here it is.

My definition of rice is simply that it's excessive. By that I mean the owner went out, and decided to buy/install every available aesthetic part there is for their car. As is the case with LED nozzles, Z3 fenders, vinyl, etc. These parts are also bought/installed with little regard to how they would look with the car.

So in looking at the picture:
The hood scoop is rice. Really, it is a little on the useless side and it is disruptive to the car's natural bodylines.
Spoiler: See above. Again, it's not that it is an ugly spolier, I just feel it doens't fit with the car.
Suspension: From that picture, it doesn't look lowered. Nothing is worse than seeing cars with body mods, then a large wheel gap. Not cool.
Front bumper: The bumper itself isn't bad, but the mesh is disgusting and looks like ass.

That car in the picture is a 98' or a 99' cavalier... it's definately not a 2000+.

The wheels are z24 alloys from a pre-2000 model, the front fenders, hood, headlights, and corner signal lamps are all from a pre-2000 model as well.

the car is a 2002 cavalier it was in a wreck b4 i bought it but the owner fixed it up somehow it was ok. it front was still rough nd the passanger side headlight was cracked so i got a 97 drift kit 4 it so i had to take out the headligts nd get ones of a 97 which never had the yellow things in them but i didnt care because i put a blue inditator blubs :rofl:

i think the odo might be messed up? i cant raely say. its actualy lots for an 02 it was bought in 01 tho.

Well regardless of what year or parts of years your car is made up from, if that's the true ODO reading you might as well keep it.

Look at it this way, at least CAV Parts are cheap and easy to come by. You've already got some time and money into it, so as was said, why don't you spend the extra cash you have for a new one on a swap for the CAV?? Then upgrade your suspension, and other drivetrain/suspension parts that will hav taken the wear on all those KMS.

You said you removed the scoop. I mean to each their own, but I think that was a good move. Spoiler ain't hideous or anything. I would replace that front mesh though with a more open mesh pattern -- someone also mentioned that I think.

When you get it all tip top running order and the car is solid again, then get a full paintjob to bring it all together. Keep the car clean and you can be happy with that CAV for years.

Why trade it I say. Worst case just save your cash outright, remove and sell teh front bumper/spoiler, and drive that CAV into the ground as a beater if you don't want to take it any further. At least you'll get your money out of it while you save your sheckles for a new one.

I personally don't care for the hood scoop. Other than that it could use rims and be lowered, and replace the mesh with something a little cleaner. As for rice I don't think its rice at all. I don't think the car is all that bad. I have seen more "rice" on a some imports than that car. (remember the 240sx on pimp my ride) I'm not a fan of the scoop, but I think the rest of the car is okay. Good luck on the trade. I would recomend selling it private, but thats just my opinion from an ex- car salesman.

I like the car, actually. you took off the hood scoop so I think that'd make it a lot nicer. ditch that mesh too. I like the bumper and spoiler (GTR spoilers are best). Sell it privately, dealers always shaft you on trade-ins. Saturn Crowfoot was only going to give me $4000 for my 1995 Talon that is mint with only 68,000km... so you can't expect much for your Cavalier, either.
Personally, I would keep it. you aren't going to get much $$ for it no matter what, and if the head gasket is blown you might as well use that as an excuse to take it all apart and rebuild the motor, and then boost or it or something. if something is broken, build it back better. if you can afford a 2000 Civic Si, you can afford to make your Cavalier a lot nicer then most of the Hondas driving around.
