View Full Version : A2 GTi
This is my GTi that is being prepared for rally here in western canada. The engine is a 2.0L 16v.
Its black, it has some problems, but ill update the build irratically, haha.
i have a build log on my site (http://members.shaw.ca/ascrivens/build_log.htm), but no pics. they are a beyond exclusive!
dec 12:
i think this may be where some issues are stemming from:
bashed up oil pan
dec 18th. and off came the head...
block, she's dirty alright. the coolant seems to have caused the carbon on the pistons to flake up???
this is a better shot of the pan.
The dash came out too, but no pics yet
Updates Jan 15 of the year of our lord two thousand and five: engine all apart and crank was ruined from spun bearing. got another. interior and dash all out and shell prep mostly completed. scrapping seal sealer is the worst part of this project. even chipping the tar away in -20 weather was better.
engine bay passenger wheel well.
the tar was no walk in the park though...
interior. im not sure what is gonna happen to it. i certainly dont need it. for sellie maybe?
you'll notice all the excess wiring i pulled out of the car from the last owners stereo. i really dont need 2 sets of useless snipped rca's or miles of speaker wire to the rear of my rally car do i?
hot tanked and polished crank, ready to go in. got all the bearing and everything ready...
just need to get the block ready. needs a good cleaning, thats for sure. gotta make sure the oil galleries are free as well.
look at all this junk that needs to go back on!!!
i hope i remember where it all goes, haha
here is a shot of the cabin. pretty barren, like your MOM! haha.
i still have some wiring to sort out though
despite all the work and everything, it appears as though im a pretty happy guy
engine. its not so pretty right now
some welding, but no cleaing. Im not so pleased with these welds, but they are sturdy.
I love the engine sooo much, the next step is to put it back together.
Update Feb 07/08 2005: got the crank in. such a change to be in a situation where cleanliness is so important. not at all like scrapping sealant.
can you tell which is the new piston???
here are my little power makers again
honed block. not perfect, but enough. you dont want to go too far with honing
piston rings. the packaging is sooo nice. tells you exactly where each ring goes. yayyyyy
candid camera of my dad tapping the piston into the block. no actually this was a pose. You need to have someone on the bottom guiding the connecting rod past the crank journal so that the studs dont dent or chip or scuff (etc) the journal.
all done. torqued to spec and ready to roll
now this is starting to look like an engine
dec 9: i was wrong, Today it looks like an engine... after pissing around for 3 hours getting the lower intake runner bolts out (allen bolts. 5 of the 8 stripped out...) i cleaned up the head and got'er back on
ahh, all done. valve cover needs to be cleaned though. solvent didnt do the job, so sand at high speed might be the next step. i think im gonna have a sand blasting party.
wow, its beeeeeeen a while.
here is my suspension
more bits later, but you can check out more pics HERE (http://members.shaw.ca/fuegorally/pbuild.htm)
ok, i havent updated this little thread in a while. for many reasons, with school and the car i dont have time, and honestly beyond is boring.
anyways, this is where i stand. basically bolt in the seats and giver. its done (as much as any project is ever done) (i do realize i have a hood and dash panel and bumper skin to go of course, but if i can finish the project in a couple of hours, relative to the total time spent, this thing is done)
