I just bought my civic si recently and i was wondering if all vtec engines need premium gas or just some? my gas cap doesnt' say anything about what type of gas to use

its vtec, not vtech, and check your owners manual.

87 is prolly fine... 89 wont hurt... anything more is an overkill

Go with what it states in your manual.

If it says 87, use 87, any other would be a waste of cash.

Civic si's just need 87

I believe all sohc vtec is just regular, and all dohc vtec models are premium. unless its got some aftermarket work and is "tuned" for premium.

the type of gas required has nothing to do with the type of valve train you have in your car. More importantly is the design of the combustion chamber and compression ratio.

My SiR takes premium, but I don't think the Si's need it.

Well yeah, i just meant it from a honda stand point, that seems to be the norm. ALot has to do with what the car is "programed" to take

Your ECU will retard the timeing on a higher compression engine if your running a lower octane fuel. So if you want the power and the manual says to use premium then use it. Plus its safer.

Speed_69 for your car i believe that 87 would be just fine.
