Caesar's Steak House - Downtown

512 4th Ave SW
Calgary, AB
T2P 0J6

Phone: 403 264 1222
Fax: 403 264 9933
Number in Party - 2
Food rating - 9.5 / 10
Ambience - 5 / 5
Service - 10 / 10
Average Cost per person: $50.00 incl Drink. Easy to spend upwards of $100.

I went for dinner last night at this establishment, and I must say it was an extremely well presented and well done.

Having only dined at the Willow Park location in the past, but knowing of it's quality, I figured the Downtown location would be equaliy as satisfying.

Arriving without reservations, we were promptly welcomed and seated in a suitable location within the establishment. I would normally recommend reservations for this restaurant, but as we were arriving later in the night, it was feasable.

The ambience is superb. Extremely busy dining area however the roar of other peoples conversations does not overpower the mood at the table which is nice. The rich colors of red, brown and gold are warming and welcoming. The room temperature was perfect, and the grill, enclosed by glass in the center rear of the restaurant allows you to watch the preparation of your choice of meat.

Service was prompt. All the waiters are professional, no young punks working there, the doorman, the concierge, and all the house staff are all established and well versed with how to put on a proper presentation of hospitality and culinary arrays. Their experience is obvious.

The Menu is what you would expect from an established steakhouse in Calgary. The traditional house cuts of AAA Alberta Beef, as well as Lobster, Ribs, Chicken and the other expected trimmings of Escargot, sautéd mushrooms, etc etc.

They offer a full service bar, as well as a respectable wine list, ranging from $30-$500/btl.

They run for the most part a traditional 4 course meal with every steak order. Starting with soup, cheese/garlic toast, salad, and of course the main entré

I myself ordered the medium rib eye steak, the Lady had a medium new york strip. Both were prepared textbook in cooking, Medium Rare WAS Medium Rare. This is difficult to find it seems these days.

Both of us agreed that it was the best steak we had ever enjoyed. I have been to a lot of classy upscale restaurants but have never had a more enjoyable cut of meat than what was enjoyed last night.

All in All, I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a great place to take a date, head out with clients, birthdays or other special events, or whenever you're looking for that little bit extra :)

You will not leave hungry.

Cheers.

I think the food network rated this place #5 of the top steak houses in Canada. But I could be wrong.

It was very good the last time I was there.

So is the downtown location pretty much the same as the Willow Park location? And when you say its about $50/person, does that include an excessive amount of drinks? ;)
Whats the average price of just a Dinner entre, ie. a steak dinner like what you and your lady ordered?

Agree that this is the best steakhouse in the country. I have experienced some poor service though in the past. Even after this and the pretty pricey menu this place still rules.

I think I would post up if I drank like an alcoholic.

The bill was 110 with tip, that included the 2 meals, a tea, and 1 caesar.

Thanks.

the average price is probably 35-40 dollars, plus tax and tip, = 50 bucks MINIMUM per person.

came out to be $110 + tip, ended up to be $150. excellent service

Just curious, would anyone recommend this place if one of the attending does not eat steak?

Yah they still have plenty of non steak items although they definetly aren't as good as the steak items.

My sister doesn't really eat steak and she told me she has the chicken kiev there one time and it was really good.

Caesar's is known for its steak. However, there is many alternatives that will satisfy the non-steak people. Caesar's is great, I haven't tried the Downtown location yet. As a family we used to dine at the Willowpark location once every 5 or 6 weeks. A group of friends and I were supposed to try Caesar's Downtown location last week for our Christmas Dinner, but ended up going to Nick's Steakhouse instead, to comply with ONE persons limited budget :thumbsdow

haha, I guess what makes it worse is that one person is someones other half, whom the rest of us do not like for genuine reasons. If it was anyone different, I would have gladly paid the difference in their meal. If that one person wasn't there, I would have been tempted to pay for our entire bill at Caesar's. Dining out is something I enjoy, and I am so glad when I can get away from the usual Earl's, Joey's, Moxies', etc...

Great review Ben, thanks.

How does the beef compare to Carvers?

I think I will try out Caesars with the gf -- does the menu cater well to non-beef eaters?

I would say the size and quality is above carvers for sure.

The menu does have a selection of seafood and chicken dishes, but keep in mind, it is traditionally a Steakhouse.

Caesar's is pretty good but somedays that place can get really busy and the service suffers. I personally enjoy Hy's Steakhouse more; constantly superb service and the ambience is very nice. There food is pretty good as well. Both are great steakhouses though and either is a good bet for ra nice evening

keg or ceasars?

Si_FlyGuy

Filet Mignon (peppercorn sauce on side) is really good, although the crazy man behind the glass case doesn't cook it as precisely as it should be. Be prepared to taste a little more/less blood on your steak than you wish. Service was horrible.

Murrietta's serves a mean Ribeye though..yum.

yeah its not that much. more like 70/person with drinks.

comparing it to the keg is a joke though. caesars is to keg what keg is to A&W. :)

best steak ive had personally. one of my favorite places to eat.

Make sure you don't vomit up your 100$ steak on some 8 y.o. at laser tag, that would be a waste and i'm sure the child would be upset.

On the topic of laser tag -- i played it last year for our corporate challenge, it's kind of neat.

I don't know how you guys get away with not spending $100/person. Maybe you ate a pasta or something?

An average sized steak is about $40.00. Add a couple of caesars ~$15.00. Then factor in a dessert, appetizers, tip and maybe valet and you're right up there.

Filet mignon actually. Its the most expensive one on the menu @ about $45. Most of the steaks are in the $30 - $40 range. Desert is like $7, so $40 + $7 + $15 and youre at $62. After tax and tip youre right at about $75. :dunno:

I like Vintage, Caesar's, Hy's, they're all pretty good. I just think that Carver's is better. Perfect steak EVERY time.

Just went there for dinner tonight. I ordered a medium-rare ribeye, but the steak ran the gamut of medium to almost blue. Undesired but delicious nevertheless. Their caesar salad's the best that I've had. I don't know how you guys can fit dessert in after eating such a big mean though.

Seanith

You wouldn't look out of place if you were dressed up like that. At the minimum i'd say at least khakis/golf shirt sort of thing. but when i was there, i saw retards with cut sleeves and jeans. they looked like fucking assholes to say the least.

HiSpec
