Is this illegal?

A friend of mine had an accident last night. His whole passenger side rear corner is pooched. His light is broken off, but he has the middle and drivers side break lights. There is no frame damage or anything and it still drives perfectly. Can he get a ticket if he drives it the way it is? He is going to fix it but is waiting for a couple paycheques since he just payed his tuiton!

btw he has a sticker from the police on his dash.

If it's mechanically safe to drive, the only ticket a cop could write up is for having a tail light or brake light out. But that's not likely because he's got an accident sticker and it just happened.

I don't know what the rules in Alberta are like, but here in BC you are only exempt from the equipment rules to remove the vehicle from the highway forthwith.
