id like to suggest that we start a fund for those affected by the indian ocean earthquake. i or one of the mods can create a paypal account, then when all the money is collected, we can make one huge donation to unicef or red cross under the beyond.ca name. weve got a lot of people on this board and i know a lot of you are decent people who will help out for a worthy cause.

what do u guys think?

------

*Post Hijacked by Ben to add donation info to first post*

I'm a supporter of this Idea.

As a Beyond Mod I will spearhead this initiative as I hardly use my paypal account anymore.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to this cause can do so by clicking this link and making a donation.

I will keep this acct open for the next week, as well as will be at the 403 meet tonight to take cash donations, and then will make a donation in beyonds name to the charity you all prefer.

Thanks for being a great group beyond.

I've heard figures of 68,000 and they haven't even gotten into the remote areas yet. Plus all those bodies buried and adrift in the ocean. I also heard that the number of dead right now could double if disease strikes like they predict it will.

Great Job Ben. I donated, not much but thats all I could afford right now. Guys do not hesitate to donate for a noble cause. Think of it like spending money at Mcdonalds or something.

EDIT: yeah, I just did. Did it before your second post so didnt put my name and stuff though.

Wow I am suprised how slow this thread is going. Come on people, step up. Even if it's $5.00! What's $5?? Anything will help these people. All those poor children who have lost their families make me wanna cry. Please donate to this good cause.

BTW: I already made a large donation to the Red Cross.

Hey guys, it's awesome that you've privately donated for the victims of the tsunami disaster. The beyond.ca fund is in no way trying to detract people from privately donating. It is setup to encourage our members to donate in any way possible and to provide a quick and easy donation method for our members. It also gives the Calgary car community an opportunity to pitch in together for a good cause.

Ben

Good thing I have lots of free time, hahaha

Ben

I am going to collect some goodies and run a draw with all the names I have collected from people who donated.

It's going to a good cause folks.

Johnny@CustomAuto
12-30-2004, 12:33 PM
Remember guys. These people need CASH donations. Do not donate food or clothing. The cost for shipping them donations such as hard goods will out weigh the benefits. Send them money and it's received immediately and they can buy medical supplies and food right there. Let the governments of countries handle food supplies and clothing.

^^Werd to what Johnny said. They need as much cash as they can get. $5 is nothing for us, but will mean a LOTS and TONS to them specially in times like these. Even if every earning Canadian donates $5, thats lots of money right there. People just need to understand, that they are not going to go bankrupt or suffer huge losses because of a small donation. So guys I encourage all of you to keep your donations coming.

Ben
12-30-2004, 06:15 PM
A 24 hour update.

We have raised over 225 dollars thus far in the past 24 hours.

I have to say I am impressed.

What impressed me more was just now one of our members donated $100. I shall leave this person unnamed as some people dont like the attention, but that is truly a great gesture, and I wish to thank this member.

That said. Amounts people should not be judged, it is the giving of anything that truly matters.

Give what you can, a little or a lot, whatever you feel you can, is all.

So far canadians have raised over 70 million dollars to this cause...a lot of money but in context, a small dent in the billions needed. Not saying we need to cover the whole cost, hahaha, but in the season of giving, whats a little pocket change in the grand scheme of it.

Cheers and happy holidays.

This is awesome, but I donated to the Red cross directly so I could use my credit card (points) and get a receipt (taxes).

Thats fine man, it's the thought that counts. We're just collecting whatever people can spare, if people desperately need their credit card points and tax incentives/benefits, donate directly, we're just raising money as a group. :)

Just saw on the news that the federal government will match dollar for dollar all the money raised by the public that goes towards international relief agencies i.e. Red Cross. So what you're donating is essentially doubled. So keep it comin'!

Futureshop is also taking donations at all their tills. As an added bonus all donations will be matched dollar for dollar so your donation essentially doubles, and when they donate it to the Red Cross, the Federal Government will match that donation.

AllGoNoShow
01-07-2005, 01:45 AM
Wal-mart is also taking donations at the tills, as soon as the day rolls around, wal-mart head office will match whatever all the stores make together, then the Canadian government has to match that :)

AllGoNoShow
01-07-2005, 01:46 AM
Oh and btw, if you donate over $20 to any chairty and get a receipt you can use that for a tax refund, I'm not sure as to how much or how to go about doing it but from what ive been told by the manager, anythign over $20 you can get a tax reciept from the government, Wal-mart has the 1800 for you to call if you want more information.

Walmart wins.. if I pay 20bux to walmart, walmart matches is $40 ... the cdn gov't matches walmart, $80 ..

I'm going to drop 20 at walmart tonight ... I'll go without a couple beers this month *shrug* ... beer .. nation in dire need ... beer .. nation in dire need ... hmm....

Or does the red cross double it too?
