unusual muscle cars

Outside of well known models like the Boss 429s, Super Bees etc. there are probably some sporty rides that have been overlooked, perhaps some cars from the 50s or from the 70s smog era. Any other cars to add? :)

Ive always had respect for the AMX. Sort of a domestic CRX. I got smoked by one that had the big engine all built up in it. I think it was a 420 not positive though. It was damn quick.

Oh, yeah, GTX's! They're a blast, my father used to have a 1968 440 GTX. Sold it, now we're working on a different one. (another '68) I can't wait for it to get out of the body shop so we can drop in the Hemi!:burnout:

Detroit really put out some varied machines back in the day, That Fairlane Thunderbolt is really radical. :)

The 71/72 GTO with the LS5 300/305 net horsepower low lead or no lead 455 HO motor. Outside the classic 1964-70 GTO years, but still a very nice set of wheels IMO, especially with honeycomb rims. This car can run on 91 octane unleaded and is still quick.:thumbsup:

I would say the early Firebirds also don't get the attention they derserve. The 67s/68s get overlooked with all the attention given to the Camaro and Chevelle. Also emphasis is placed on the Trans Am, but the plainer Ram Air 400s were pretty good.:)

Mustang II gets little respect, but it was available with a 302, you can fit a 351 and the Monroe Handler was a cool looking machine.:thumbsup:

Yeah, the stripped out sleeper look was cool. I have seen a 1970 Ram Air 400 Firebird Formula with three speed manual, dog dish hubcaps. Really lean machine.:thumbsup:

It was the Sunbeam Alpine that was used.
Rootes saw how well Shelby had transformed the AC Ace so they got him to add a V8 to the Alpine - it was produced for 3 years using Ford's 260 ci engine - only in 1967 did it get a 289 and when Chrysler bought Rootes in '67 they quickly dropped it - they didn't want to be selling Ford power.
Fewer than 10% of the production ever got the 289 although that is the engine that is usually associated with the Tiger.
