Hey Guys,

Just a question out of curiosuity. I did a search and couldn't find anything.

Petro is my prefered, I don't know if that "winter gas" is hype or not though.

Regards,

Neil

No hype, No BS.

CO-OP, I like the 3.5 towards groceries and the cheque I get from them every year.

What is the cheque like? how does it work?

I fill up @ Superstore and you get 7 cents back for every litre! and its usually pretty cheap

It goes towards your annual shareholders return, you get a percentage of everything you buy at co-op and co-op related stores. Even the liquor store and gas bar. I see about 1% give or take a few tenths.

Groceries= 2400/year
Gas= 1200/year

Hooray for me I get about $40!!!

And for all you smokers out there your cigarette purchases are treated the same way as every other gas bar item.

Shell is my choice.

Best performance and best fuel economy all wrapped into one.

nope. different stuff mixed in at different places. but generaly for the average car there really is no difference.
i fill the Sunfire and Trans Am up at Esso and the GNX since its turboed and running 30psi i need the race gas or just really really high octane so i ushaly go to this Mohawk in the south.

Might as well pay the extra couple cents or dollars for something better.

Petro mostly for me just cuz the station's right by where I live, but if I happen to be low on fuel on the way to pick up the Mrs. from work, there is this particular Esso station that I visit frequently as well since the pumps are usually a bit cheaper than most other places in the city. :D

Well, you'll save more with Superstore.

1) PC Mastercard gives you 1% back on ALL purchases, not just Superstore, redeem any time, not end of year.

2) Superstore gas is Petro Can without the additives. + you get extra 3.5 cents off than anyone else.

3) On average, Superstore is 5-10% cheaper than anyone else in town. Although Co-Op and Safeway has better quality meat, deli and bakery.

:werd:

I'm with you on #3. I shop at superstore but buy my meat and produce at co-op.

CO-OP is close for me and my car seems to like the gas. I will look into that MC though.

I use that mastercard for everything and probably get well over 250 bucks back a year in free groceries. But for gas I use safeway because they have a bigger discount when you buy premium. But lately it's been husky 94.

Hmm.. for credit cards why don't you look into a CIBC dividend card? They also give you 1% cash back on all your purchases and you aren't limited to redeeming it at superstore only.:)

7-11 at the Edmonton International Airport, always 3-4 cents cheaper than anywhere else, plus with 30L you get a big buck (not much, but whatever)

oh.. and I kinda like their diet coke..

I used to fill up at shell religiously and then when I got the Max, both my O2 sensors went kaput within about a month of buying the car, could've been coincedence, $400.00 repair bill later, I stopped using shell and stuck to Petro and haven't had a problem yet. Plus I heard about some big lawsuit against Shell for that anyways.

I hate fuzzy math.

Tier one - 0.25% for amounts up to $1,500.
Tier two - 0.50% for amounts $1,500.01 to $3,000.
Tier three - 1% for amounts over $3,000.

So on 20 grand/year you'd be short around 20 bucks over superstore.

The Platinum looks better:

Tier one - 0.5% rebate on your first $3,000 in annual net purchases.
Tier two - 1% rebate on your next $12,000 in annual net purchases. (Between $3,000 and $15,000)
Tier three - 1.5% rebate on your next $20,000 in annual net purchases. (Between $15,000 and $35,000)
Tier four - 2% rebate on your next $15,000 in annual net purchases. (Between $35,000 and $50,000)

But they ding you with 80$ dollar yearly fee, and 30$ for a 2nd card. So on that same 20 grand, you get less than half of what superstore would have paid. It actually doesn't make more money until you spend well over 35 grand.

It's all a shell game. Give some money to you here, take some back over there. Same reason some people insist leasing is cheaper than buying, or that the "driver's edge" payment plan is a smart idea.

Besides, the real trick is to convert your PC points and Petro points into Sears club points, then get the final reward which is pretty much double what you would have gotten otherwise (instead of 250 dollars I got gift card for 400). Edit: was 600$ gift certs instead of 300 bucks groceries.

Co-op because i find their service is the best. Husky is not bad sometimes, but most of the time they take awhile to come out to the car and what not...

Guys, anything bad about Superstores gas, my dad fuels up there because of the superbucks. I hate to make a generalization, but I think all brown people shop at Superstores and love the discounts haha. Again, no discrimination or anything, I am brown myself, this is just a general observation I have found.

I use Murphy Canada the walmart owned or what not. With a shopping card saves 5 cents per liter.

Calgary needs more readily availible full serve places (that don't cost extra for full serve)

It probably just because you live in the NE. If you go to Country Hills, you would thing only Asian goes to Superstore. It's just demographic of your area.

You'll find equally amount of mixed races go to other superstores. And Superstore gas IS Petro Can minus the winter gas additives.

And Khyron, Superstore's premium gas is only 7 cents over regular instead of the usual 10 cents @ other gas stations. So I think that matches Safeway's price.

I go to Shell 'cause the old man works there and always bitches when ever someone in the family goes elsewhere.

Now besides loyalty/rewards programs, higher octance, fuel aditives and how often they clean/how dirty the pumps are ... its all the same as far as I understand. I don't think that any of the majors use exclusively their own gas. Depending on your region ... the gas place you go to may not have a refinery. That company than makes a deal to buy company X's gas. Same company makes diesel and they sell that to company X in that same region.

So the other main reason I use Shell is 'cause I'm saving up my airmiles for a flight to Airdrie. ;)

Actually I live in Varsity in The Northwest, and go to the Country Hills sueprstore. But thats a whole different issue, I do notice that there are more asians at the CH superstore vs Browns at the NE.

So superstore gas is the same as petro without the additive, interesting.

I guess I'm the only one who goes to Canadian Tire? Usually about $4-$5 of CT money with each fill of my truck. Throw it in the glove box for a few months and it adds up quick.

CO-OP, I work there because of which I save extra 3 cents on each litre over 6.5 cents. So overall I save 9.5 cents per litre.
