dual only works properly when the ram is exactly the same. If the timings are different, ie CL3 vs CL2 or whatever, it's not going to work in dual channel as well as a matching pair.

This is why there are dual channel kits, because the ram is pair'd or matched from the factory.

^thats what i thought, thats why i want to test before buying, but if htats not possible ill jus go out andbuy 2 matching sticks.

There the same timing....different brands..i only used it in my 2 differnt board that both support dual channeling i wouldn't lie...

The RAM doesn't have to be the same brand to work in dual channel. It depends how picky your motherboard is really. I used to own a 512mb stick of Kingston and Samsung branded RAM and it ran in dual channel.

About the timings... you can change the timings of the RAM so they match so you can make them work in dual channel. I think the only limitation is that the RAM sticks have to be the same size.

Milk2%
01-03-2005, 01:25 AM
Yes that is true...Just change the timinigs in your bios..but they don't have to be done..since they already are the same timings in the ram i'm sellin

Run it in dual channel, ie the proper slots, doesn't mean it's running "dual channel." Once the motherboard seeing that the ram is different, it will automatically switch to regular single channel dimms.

Anyways, I guess it couldn't hurt. Dual channel gives you at best 10-15% increase in memory performance.

wow....dude...you can run dual channel with 2 different chips...only when it says during bios loading..."dual channel activivated"...WOW. know your stuff please before you come flame
