^ which one 3rd gen I pretty sure they do because the dock connector is the same, but the 2nd and 1st Gens do not have a dock port on the iPod, or so I believe, correct me if I'm wrong..

correct, 1st and 2nd Gen iPods won't fit in a dock. 3rd gens won't fit a 4th gen dock, but 4th gens will get 3rd gen dock, albeit loosely.
