Hi guys, I am looking into getting a 99-00 328, or if budget allows a 99M3. I have about 30grand that I am willing to spend, but if need be it can be stretched out a little bit. I love the 328 but I see so many diff model types when searching.

Does anyone have a link or provide a quick breakdown of what a 328, 328i, 328ia, 328ic, 328is is?

Which model is the one with the sport package?

thanks for your help.

Ivan

99-00 is two chassis designations.

99 sedans are E46's(328i's) and the coupes/convertables are E36(328is/328ic)

00 is all E46 and the coupes/convertables are (328Ci/328Cic)

the 'a' designates automatic(it's not actually part of the badging) and 's' designates that it's a standard(again, not part of the actual badging/model number) Most people use the a/s as a quick way to say which transmission the car has.

The 'a' or 's' does not mean anything about the sport package. That's something you'll have to verify based on wheels/seats/suspension or the original invoice. The Sport Package usually includes different wheels, sport seats, sport steering wheel(sometimes shiftknob) and sport suspension.

You can also get most BMW dealerships to do a vehicle inquiry based on the VIN# so that you can find out what options the vehicle was ordered with.

Have to include that in the case of e30's and e36's that ic stood for convertible or cabrio. On the newer(e46) it designates coupe.

"is" also designated the coupe in the early e36.

E46 'verts are badged Ci but the *real* code is Cic
