To all the 540 owners out there

If any of you 540i owners out there have a cold air intake. Please let me know I have a quick question for you.

my dad bought a cheap one off of ebay for his E39, and it clogged up, and totaly screwed up the car, by the end we timed the 0-60, and got a time of 15.0.
we took it to the dealer, and it took every mechanic to figure out that it was just the intake.

if you buy one, dont cheap out
go for the dinan one

AFE makes a nice Cold Air Intake for the 540i at a much better price than the Dinan! :thumbsup:

there are tons of companies that make them, but are they quality?
i would just drop in a k&n filter in stock airbox. but thats just me

I like the Dinan one but I am also attracted to the nice sound that comes from the open air ones with the heat shield, Im not sure if the Dinan one sounds any louder? Also Dinan is expensive and I have heard that because the Dinan one scoops cold air from the bottom that they are more maintenance prone for filters. On the other hand I am using aftermarket exhaust and i was told if I do not go Dinan CAI i may get a check engine light if I use Dinan software. I wish conforrti would hurry up and get some shit for the 540is. Thanks for your input guys. I have never heard of AFE whats there website I would like to check them out.

The AFE Cold Air Intakes are really nice quality, I have attached a picture of the actual E39 540i Kit.

They are very reasonably priced @ under $500.00 for the Kit!
