Saturn's version of the Pontiac Solstice, the Sky exhibits the new face of Saturn, which will add a mid-size sedan and a large crossover sport-utility to its lineup over the next two years.

Aimed at the Mazda Miata in price with dimensions close to the pricier and slightly bigger Honda S2000, the sub-$25,000 Sky gets a 170-hp, 2.4-liter Ecotec four mated to manual or automatic five-speed transmissions and 50/50 weight distribution.

The Sky comes in early 2006, and we expect a supercharged Red Line version to follow. We're wondering what sister division Pontiac thinks of the supposed budget-brand Saturn becoming more performance-oriented

I'm liking the looks both inside and out, good value for the money I suppose the only question I have is realiability.

it looks sorta like the viper from the first pic...:dunno: but with a lot less power.

anyway, i'll still pick the miata over it.. but this car looks pretty damn good

Poor power ratings for a car like that...

If they are going to make an aggressive car, at least have the power to back it up!

Sold!

That is a really sweet car and an awesome price too! One of the few new GM's I'm looking forward to

PS - at 2900 lbs the power is enough to get you moving well and with 170 foot.lbs of torque, you'll get off the line really quick! The redline version will be a rocket :D

Vauxhall Lighting concept rebadged. They already have a 2.2 Ecotec that can do 240HP. I'm sure a redline version of this 2.4 can reach there as well, that is if they're going ahead with production.

BTW, like PT said, @ 2900lbs, it's identical as S2K with roughly the same torque numbers. It'll haul ass.

And remember, there'll be around a $20K cdn price tag difference between this car and S2K.

Nicest GM interior I've seen in a while. Still doesn't have the appeal of the S2K but it's a big step up for Saturn!

actually, no you cant say vauxhall vx220. different platform altogether. the sky is based on the new kappa platform (same as solstice) and the vx220 is on the previous lotus elise platform

Reminds me of a miniature corvette for some weird reason :|

Looks better than the Solstice IMO, but I couldn't get over the fact that it's a Saturn. Current Saturns are just built so cheap!
I think they should have made a dual or center exhaust system too. Having only one pipe out the side looks unbalanced on this

Now that's a damn fine car!

i dont think it would, since Bob Lutz made the decision to stop using plastic panels on all new Saturns.

For all of you that keep giving Saturn crap....

Saturn makes great vehicles, I own a 2003 ION, my mother has a 2001 SC2, my dad has a 97 SC1, and my friend has a 2003 ION, and NONE of them have ever had problems.

I am not saying that in the past Saturn has not had problems, but the company has made drastic improvements in their vehicles. There is a Saturn in one of my neibhor's driveways right now with over 500K miles on it, and there have been remarkably few issues with breakdowns. I am not sure what year it is, but it is a late 90s.

True, Saturn is not the first group of cars that comes to mind when you think performance, but know this...

There is a race modified version of the Saturn ION that set the land speed record for the car's class.

I think the new Sky will be a great vehicle, and while it may not hold up to other cars built for performance, it will be a good deal of fun, while also being safe, RELIABLE, and possibly even economic.

Ok, I'm done on my soapbox now.

For Everybody else....

I think this is a beauriful car, and I cant wait for it to enter the market. I will definately be trading in my ION for one of these bad boys (Red Line Edition).

hmm, generously assuming "late 90s" is 1996, thats over 55,000 miles (almost 90,000km) a year...you sure about that?
he'd have to drive 150-300 miles every single day...

Call BS on either "late 90s" or "500K" miles.

BTW, I don't know why you express the opinion on this thread.

Saturn and the ideology behind it are long dead ever since its SUV came out. It's now just another rebadged GM brand.

Sky = Solstice = rebadged european Vauxhall.

Still great cars, but I don't see any Saturn pride in it.

I do agree though that Saturns are an incredibly un-hip vehicle to own. I would prefer a Chevy rather than a Chevy that is pretending not to be a Chevy.

I think it's hot looking. Makes the miata and s2k "look" like crap.

But will wait to see the redline version.

Not sure if this is going to be true or not but it looked like the Redline will be turbo charged with 253 hp. http://forums.gminsidenews.com/showthread.php?threadid=12564

It looks awesome but Saturn is gonna have to do some aggressive marketing to move these cars. The Saturn stigma will hold a lot of potential buyers away.
