tell me what you want to spend, and I'll tell you if it's worth it.

I have researched this a lot for these cars, having owned VW's all my life..

8v's seem to be pretty stout, but you have to figure out what turbo you want. 5-7 psi on one turbo is way different then another.

another option is 16v, ben ran a 15.7 with his i believe, not bad considering how close to stock it was (exhaust, cam, chip, etc.) and its an 87. (feel free to make any corrections ben).

Ben I was thinking in the 1500-2000 $ range I will probably be using all Used Parts.
Also so if I grab the Turbo D EXh Manifold could I fit say a T28 Turbo on it....what is the stock Turbo on 8V TD???

Thanks alot Ben

I'm guessing that the td cars have kkk turbos just like any other vw,audi, porsche. So no a t28 won't bolt on.
Here's a low buck idea:
Get a old 8v exh manifold from a mk1(6 bolt pattern),build or have built an adapter to what ever flange you want.It may sound kinda ghetto but for the bucks your looking to spend it would suit the purpose.
