The Players
Last year, Subaru's Impreza WRX STi outgunned the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution with more horsepower, a more sophisticated driveline, and a higher level of polish. For 2005, Mitsu fires back with a special Evo MR Edition ($34,900 est) to take on a revised 2005 STi ($32,770).

The Game
Two fierce competitors in World Rally Championship racing bring their best-yet hardware (and software) to the streets of the USA. We took both competition-derived production cars to the dyno shop and the racetrack to see which would first cry "uncle."

How do you like your 05? I was jealous of the centre console- might have to get one...

Interesting that they pick the Mitsubishi as the winner which means the STI is the loser...

"Okay: The Mitsubishi wins this time, but we're sure Subaru will have a reply shortly."

Pretty difficult when to even pick a winner when the cars are so very close in performance...

Based on deductive reasoning, that would be the best answer. Evo's handle very well. Its just a matter of preference, I guess. :)

Looks like its pretty close probably comes down to the styling. I personally like the EVO better, but that could be just because I haven't seen any in real life before.

I know this is a Canadian forum, so I was just curious about how many STis and Evos you guys see up there?

I see about 3 STi's and 4 Evo's a week here in Cali.

Yes, the Evo handles better and has better track times. I personally chose the STi bc it was cheaper and has the 2.5 rather than the 2.0 with the 6 spd over the 5 spd (at the time I got mine)...

Anyways, they are both great little weekend cars.

we don't have any "legal" Evos in Canada due to an issue with the front bumper. There are a few Evos in Vancouver I believe but those came through the border through loopholes and so on.

her in canmore for a population of about 15k people there are three including mine..

as for the test... had we, had the choice of EVO VS STi I more than likely would have gone EVO, and even though i have not driven an Evo I am pressed to say that i dont think i would trade up mY car for one, if I could though i would defenitly have one of each in my driveway

oh and of if you watch Best motoring Shows, they had a test between the Evo MR and the STI Spec C around Tskuba(Sp) circuit and in a 5 lap battle the Spec managed to go from the back of the pack all the way out to the front, mind you also the MR in Japan has all the funky electronics..

soo i guess that just more brain food to digest

the next test should be the FQ320 and the S203
