Well, today started off alright, opened the mailbox to over $1000 in cheques (got a nice scholarship), drove to school, and for once, my heater was working well. I was worried the heater core was plugging up, as previously I would only get heat while moving. Park the car at the University, head in for first day of classes for the semester. I then realized I forgot my parking pass at home, so I wrote a nice note, and left it, asking them to run my plate, and telling them that I do indeed have a pass.

Around 3:45, I was taking a nap until my next class, and my phone rings. I answer to a constable from the calgary police service, and he tells me he has a surprise for me. My first guess was that they were towing my car for not having a pass, and I was getting ready to raise royal hell, when he informs me that the fire department had just left.....

If anybody is interested, this was at the U of C, lot 12, north end, perhaps somebody saw my car burning?

I don't remember exactly what happened next, since I had just woken up, but I just booked it out to the parking lot, to see what was left of my car.....

Looks like my lower radiator hose heater ate it. For some reason, the thermostatically controlled heater decided to go nuts. The heater was _SEVERELY_ melted, and my entire front end was burned to a crisp!!!
Pictures follow... I don't know how much I can explain.

I remember talking with the police officer, and I told him that I thought he was calling me about my parking pass, and said 'If this is what they are going to do to people who forget their parking pass, I'll never forget it again!'

I think this officially goes down as one of the worst days of my life.

I guess it's no longer for sale.

In one of the pictures of the ignition coil, you can see my heater on top of it, with a big drip of melted metal hanging out of it.

Further down, there is a picture of what is left of my AFM, which melted all over the crank pulley. Apparently it got a little bit warm!!!

I figure this is the picture to start out with...
Then the summary of the damage.

The last picture is the pile of crap on the ground when I rolled my car back.
What isn't shown, is my melted front-right tire, it's just brutal.

In the picture, you can see what's left of my head light, and power steering belt...

Sorry to hear that man, and I thought I had a bad Monday when my rear drivers side tire blew while going 70 down Memorial. Do you have fire coverage on it?

What's with things breaking today!? The C-train I was on this morning started smoking up and burning something and everyone had to get off one station away from downtown. Then networks and services go down all over U of C's campus.

Anyways, shitty to hear. Glad that insurance is gonna cover it though.

I have coverage, and I _HOPE_ they will pay me what it's worth.... but I have no idea.

I remember seeing a blue BMW in lot 12, it's probably yours, I don't think there are too many BMW's in that lot.

Well, you'll see my metallic blue 951 in a few weeks, if I ever get it running, until then watch out for a rusting-like-mad 85 white subaru wagon, if I can get it to start, that will be my new primary mode of transportation!

Anyhoo, some more additions.

First, my nice shiny clean engine bay, after spending a couple hours detailing it.
Then a pic of my car beside my friend's 83 euro 944 in my garage.
Then a pic of my engine bay the day I brought the car home. Notice my nice clear coolant tank?..... :(
Anybody that knows 944's knows how rare those are, lol.

I really hope things turn around for me. This morning feels pretty empty with no car. I am going to try to get my old subaru running this afternoon, but we'll see.

Looks like the people that were parked beside me left before it caught fire. Since the foam and such goes right through where their cars would have been. Or else they saw the fire and got their cars out of there?...

I haven't heard about other cars being damaged yet, so hopefully nobody else's car got burned.

There was a green nissan pathfinder or something parked 1 stall to my right, he got a lot of yellow powder all over his front wheel and hood, but I don't think that stuff is corrosive or anything. Hopefully it won't mark up his paint or eat his tire.
I guess the weather's a little cold for him to go wash it off.

Man, this just sucks. I got a ride to school for the first time in 2 years. :(
