View Full Version : Jeep Hurricane

This surprise show car is Jeep making a statement; “we own 4x4”. The Hurricane is the most powerful and capable Jeep ever, it is an extreme off-road concept that stands as an example for the Jeep brand in a similar way that a Formula One Ferrari does for Ferrari's range of sports cars.

Despite its unique extremeness, the Hurricane does bear some comparison with the EX shown four years ago by Ford. Like the EX, it is a simple concept with lots of exposed structure and mechanicals, two seats and no roof. But the Jeep has a carbon fibre body cladding large V8 engines at the front and rear of the car - for a combined power output of 670bhp - and all four wheels turning to steer the car in a variety of different ways to enable exceptional manoeuvrability - even spinning on the spot.

Although a minimalist and technically orientated concept, some of the detailing of the Hurricane is truly exquisite; tiny indicators integrated into the front lamp cans, “Thrill rated” badges on the side flanks, intricate interior switchgear and square exposed rear lamps with a deeply embossed cross. A lot of fun!

Holy shit, this would be something to see.

Jeep Hurricane's large wheels can turn outward to allow sideways driving or turning in place.

I swear, every car or bike-related forum I've been to, someone asks about the Tomahawk once every two months or so.

car manufacturers have lost their minds. cars are getting way too large.

Question is what happened to this prototype?

Jeep has made several cool (and some not-so-cool) concepts over the years... and NONE of them have become reality.

Renegade:

Jeepster:

Varsity:

Treo:

Gladiator:

Spawner:

Trailhawk:

Some of these are quite recent, and some are older. But I really do like the Renegade and Gladiator concepts. Even the Trailhawk shows promise, IMO. The bottom line: None of the more daring concepts ever made it to production. That's Jeep. They come up with some cool designs, but never follow through. At least Chrysler had the balls to put forth cars like the Prowler and Crossfire. Too bad both were POS's.

Holy old bump, I remember reading in the media about the Hurricane when it was a concept car back when this thread was first created. It's a shame it never made it to production.

Gladiator looks like a Hummer IMO.

I love the look of that Spawner...though it somehwat resembles a lego truck and an SSR at the same time.

I think the collapse of the auto market in the last couple of years would have killed any of these concepts.

That Galdiator is freekin sweet! Reminds me of a early 1900s pickup! :) supercool, and somewhat more of a viable production model.

Despite having awesome concepts, this Hurricane sucks.

Here's to hoping it never hits the market.

People already have trouble steering two wheels, let alone four...

POS's.

I actually like the look of this concept! Seems like older chryslers look more luxurious (upclass, if you will) than what they are now, at least from the outside. ie, 300M vs 300C, and about the inside, I have no problem sitting comfortably inside a neon yet the caliber was really bad.

The Varsity looks fucking stupid, otherwise some pretty cool concepts.

And side mounted spare tire (passenger side). I was actually thinking of the older power wagon concept truck when I first saw the picture of the Jeep.
