Hey,

Has anyone ever been to Mike Miles kickboxing??...how does it compare to any of the other gyms that offer kickboxing?...

I was at inner city boxing a while ago, and want to get back into it but maybe try kick boxing instead......peace!

One of my friends from work was doing the Muay Thai Kickboxing at the Mike Miles place, he loved it.

It was intense cardio mixed in with self defense and basic attack training. From what he explained to me the rates sounded pretty decent as well.

My brother was with the gym for 7 years. He got to be really good, 1st in his age group in western canada. He had to retire early due to a shoulder injury. He loved it though, both Muai thai and kickboxing, he did both :)

initiation fee is expensive, I think its like 200 bux or something, gloves are exp, when i bought mine they were 104, and those things are way too big and padded to hell, there is also shin pads, though it isn't required, they help ALOT.

In Calgary there isn't any a huge talent pool of people to train with, so mike miles would be the best.

hmm.. I actually don't remember having paid an initiation fee. Maybe they changed it.

Keep in mind if you're doing beginning/intermediate level classes that most people are there for a work out and the classes seem to go that way and usually in the classes you really learn no strategy. Which is why I didn't like it much. It was sooo repeative. You just worked on elbowing, punches, kneeing, and kicks but really no strategy. I went to the NW and the SW gym and found that I only learned things in the SW gym for strategy.
Boring but good workout.

OK well... I ain't no black belt or nuthin. But I were thankin' that repetition were how y' learn how t' fight. I were thankin' that ain't matter how much you know you can't hit right you outta gas. ANYWAYS If you's lookin' f' a good work out you could try capoeira (http://www.capoeiracalgary.ca/) Mad work out 'n' ain't no one ever said that joint be borin. But $50/Month for Miles be pretty good.
