I can't really help you with where to take it. If it's 2 years old you should have no problmes getting it replaced. I think some of these trannies were recalled a few years back. (I could be wrong) make sure the recall didn't affect 2003 models. BTW Acura/Honda V6 auto trannies are extremely weak!

Doesn't matter where you take it.

You will still get a refurbished transmission. Honda does NOT replace broken transmissions with new ones... That is why I sold my Accord.

they said they'd order a new one, so that would be indeed a refurb?

Fair enough.

I was mainly asking if anyone has any service horror stories with local Acura places..

Moot point I suppose. First and last car from them. New truck on the way.

Thanks guys.

I wouldnt be too worried about getting a refurbished transmission. Very often the refurbs are built to stricter standards than the new ones from the factory.

There is a recall on some some of the older TL trannies, call silverhill and see what years that it covers. If i remember correctly the your car is covered but just double check. If you did get one of these bad trannies, you will get a new tranny from honda/acura.

On my 02 TL-S the tranny gave out, I took it Silverhill got it replaced, worked well afterwards. Silverhill has a slight edge in the dealership department in Calgary but many ppl have enjoyed crowfoot too.

Most of the time refurbished trannies are better that new factory replacements..the refurb unit comes complete with updates to valve body and hard parts.

My CL's tranny took a shit 2 years ago too. Failed at 100K. Dealer replaced no cost to me.
This was in Regina though...
As for Calgary dealerships, all I know is: my boss will order parts from and send customers to Crowfoot, even though we are less than 1/2 mile from Silverhill. I go to Crowfoot too.
